Rush was originally a partnership like with STPH or SMH, but is now a full-blown merger, with Ochsner calling the shots.

I would say no, hospitals are only offering $27-30 an hr. for fulltime. Home health usually doesn't pencil out any better unless you can consistently group patients in close proximity which I has never happened for us or anyone else we know.

Most OT pay that we have found is only 10-15k a year higher than COTA pay.

They’re a lot like lawyers. 95% of them give the rest of us a bad name.

Not one single time is financial viability mentioned.

I didn’t think that Mayo Clinic really needed its financial report included to point out that it was a profitable venture.

That said, The Cleveland Clinic is on a bit of a slide recently, but tracking the “profitability” of nonprofits is a somewhat unusual venture, but to consider it to be not “financially viable” over any long-term period would certainly not be accurate.

Then again, there are:
1) lies
2) damned lies
3) statistics

Re-reading the email it appears they actually did not lie. It says primarily non clinical.

“Primarily” non-clinical could be 51% non-clinical.

If so
This would be the mail in the coffin for P November. He made it public and was quoted saying this was it.

We all know anything can happen over time, but to have another round in just weeks after he makes a statement like this is it, would be the end for him.

Or it could mean nurse managers who “help out with admissions when slammed” once a week, for an hour out of a 40 hour work week, and then claim they are clinical and not part of administration. Hospital system administrators are long overdue for a contraction

Crescent Connection, I worked agency at lgmc during the pandemic and you have hit the nail on the head with what has been going on. Another rumor I’m hearing is they may shut down the orthopedic hospital on the other side of Lafayette . Any truth to this?

I have not heard that. Wouldn’t surprise me. They gobbled up too many facilities in a short amount of time.

Same thing at Ochsner main campus. Friend sat in on a meeting with some big wigs months ago, and a lot of them expressed better ratios will help with retention. Apparently, it fell on deaf ears. Surprising. That’s the problem with hospital administration…they don’t listen to the people on the frontlines involved with direct patient care.

Wow! This is groundbreaking stuff. Your friend really has incredible insight. Who would have thought that nurse/patient ratios are an important issue relative to managing costs, patient safety, and job satisfaction? It’s only been the primary issue in the field since the 80’s when I started in healthcare.

You’re lucky to have this friend providing you the secret inside information.

So, this has been an issue for at least a decade. So if administration understands this and does nothing to improve the situation, do they really understand the problem or do they just not give a shite?

What makes you think nothing has been done?

I believe there have been multiple market adjustments, retention bonuses, creation of in-house agency positions, and staff self-governance.

Same for BlueCross BlueShield of Louisiana, them selling out makes zero sense for their members. a non profit selling to a major for profit company. blue cross csuite/ execs/ board must be getting some great stock options/ payouts.

Oddly enough I've heard a lot of bad things about Ochsner from a patient perspective for at least a year or two in both the New Orleans and Baton Rouge markets.

And of course both of those markets have a bed shortage on a normal, happy day. Ochsner should be beefing up their hospital infrastructure and patient-facing staff IMO. There is room for them to expand and improve performance in both of those markets.
