Can't have your raves in Sec. 8 housing. That's for boring poor people, we are interesting poor people.

i was going to say that this was going to be their argument
"it's not about race. they don't value our culture" would be how they phrased it

it is alluring and i've thought about jumping in for a bit many times

I mean if that's your jam then go for it, but the lifestyle comes with a price.

It's a very hollow existence whose primary purpose is to fill a void inside with the never ending pursuit of immediate gratification and pain relief. While in the moment it seems great, but the long lasting reality and effects of that lifestyle in between the moments of ecstasy (no pun intended) are a brutal, mean, degrading, pointless, and hopeless existence.

yeah she's gotten old enough to where she has friends in their mid-40s and i'm just like...
i am way behind where i should be but i still have 6-8 months of living in savings and i'm making a light living with my firm while considering other options of what to do in life...but they don't even own cars or can't afford to fix them if a minor issue comes up. that level of insecurity is just scary (and they're over 10 years older than me)

Get a govt lawyer job. Private practice may not be your thing. It's brutal out there for recent grad with no book of business.

Yeah whenever I get bored with my corporate job (not super uncommon), I see some of my video gaming friends who are still single and living in a studio apartment playing games and smoking weed.
I wouldn't make that trade when I think about it long term.

i had a nice thing going doing work with other lawyers but it got to be too much and i couldn't handle it
i'm trying to find a niche or 2 and exploring other options
like right now if i could, i'd do a 1/3 split b/w lawyering, poker, and my media company. i could probably make $60k a year min and that's fine for a single guy in LC with the bonus of the reduced stress

part of my issue is stress but also is the whole money chasing stuff. i want to do something that leaves a legacy somehow and banking 100-200k/year assisting on PI work isn't going to do that. plus i've had the great fortune to meet a bunch of super successful lawyers and i see what it does to them. 3-4 marriages, crazy personal lives, insane schedules, having to rely so much on other people to keep the empire afloat, etc. it just seems way too much for me. i get that now
i'm trying to figure out if i can forge my own way. that may not be possible and i understand that, but i still have time to do that and once i do the family/life stuff then i won't be able to take that kind of risk. i just have to get out of my mental fog and do work

The internet that these people surfed all day is not as good in Omaha as in the Bay Area.
