I'm very uneducated on this topic, but why is this? Seems ripe for corruption.

Is there a reason they wouldn't hold elections? Would this mayor and council just be briefly serving until elections could be held?

It is a transition mechanism, and you’d like to think the Governor of La. would try and do the right thing.

I understand your concern, but I have to believe this is a nothing burger, and believe me I’m not a JBE supporter.

Bc elections are via statute, and those statutes state certain days for voting. The governor would appoint interim council and mayor until elections can be held as required by the law.

Makes sense

One last question. Why is this vote being held on a Saturday? I don't think I've ever heard of people voting on Saturdays.

Except for when there's a Presidential election on the ballot, all of our state and local elections are on Saturdays.

It's actually not a bad article that talks about concerns from both sides with not really much personal input. How news should be reported.

Probably the most even handed article ever written on the subject. Although, they probably should have qualified Broome’s statement by mentioning that she is a blithering moron.

I've talked to Broome and her husband before (side note: husband is a super cool dude) and she didn't come across as a terrible person, I just think she's in over her head.

Not really, and I'm definitely not friends with her. It was actually at an LSU chili tasting competition. My uber conservative father also didn't have any issues with her during the event.

Politicians can be great at the whole public perception thing even in person. I'm not doubting your thoughts here, but these are people that do it for a living.

Completely agree, hence why I said my perception, and didn't just say this is the reality of it.

St. George: We're sick of supporting the rest of the parish with our tax dollars.
Also St George: We're going to need the rest of the parish to pay for our police protection and various other parish services.

I can generally get along with most people even if we don't agree on a lot of major issues as long as they don't act like assholes so I get what you mean.

Thanks for the dumbest post of the thread here.

The area pays for BRPD and guess what...THEY DON'T GET THAT PROTECTION RIGHT NOW. So is that fair? Dumbass. They will continue to pay for sheriff's office and St George/East Side Fire, like they have been. Other parish services will STILL BE PAID FOR LIKE IT CURRENTLY IS. Why would BR pay for anything in St George? Imagine that, though. The exact role St George has been doing flipped

So you think it's fair that the currently unincorporated area of St George paying for city services that they don't receive is fair? Thanks for having no retort. It shows your stupidity on the situation.

I'm truly interested in your opinion on that one question. Do you think it's fair that people in an unincorporated area are paying for multiple city services that do not service their area? It's pretty simple.

Are you under the impression that St. George won't be paying for Sheriff's services?

Correct. Additionally, the number of dumb people outnumber the number of smart people, and the former are reproducing at a faster rate.
