As a retired Police Officer and I was an SRO for almost a decade, I cannot imagine a scenario where my babies, that how I looked at my students, were in danger and I just stood outside not doing anything.
It just blows my mind. Me and several other retired guys were talking about this while playing golf and none of us could imagine that we would respond like they did

It’s flabbergasting. I mean, imagine if it was another officer pinned down in a position like that. It goes against all reason to do what they did. It’s disgusting and unthinkable.
It doesn’t pass the smell test in the least. I don’t hate cops in principle, but in this situation I’m finding it hard not to, for these bastards.

I don’t know anything about so-called procedure when it comes to how law enforcement handles that type of situation, but I do know that if I’m in the pickup line and some nut with a gun goes into the school I’m not just going to sit there for almost an hour. I’ll probably be killed, but there’s zero chance I’m listening to gun shots without doing anything.

Not necessarily but the feds have no expectation to listen to local law enforcements orders just the same as local doesn’t answer to federal. Different chain of commands, policies, laws, etc. Uvalde PD sounds like an absolute shitshow either that or they are full of cowards.
We know what we sign up for when we take this job, absolutely sickening that they were worried about their own safety when children were being murdered.
