Plus don't most have large expense accounts and a lot of things like dry cleaning and meals paid for?

I know one director in finance who works in Midtown butblives in upstate New York. She obviously works long hours. If she works past 8 I think, the company has to drive her the 2-3 hours back to her home instead ofnletter her take the train she usually does

Friend of mine just rented a 2br in Cobble Hill in Brooklyn for $4700 a month. It’s a decent looking place.

She got a nice raise to move from Austin, but damn. Between that and the income taxes, I hope that raise was at least 35% or so.

Is there any job out there that isn’t miserable at 190k?

Everyone I know who makes more than 150k is busting there arse all the time to just stay in place. It’s a choice to make that money.

One director flat out said, “I got to my current position because i told my boss I wanted to work more and make more money. Then I told him I wanted a break again. Then I said I wanted to get back to making more money and my salary and career advancements flowed based on my dedication to busting my arse.”

Ehh, i have a great job, make above that, and work probably 45 hours a week. I'm in office on average 8-530. Need to work some weekends and have tough deadlines, but it's not a bad life

I agree $500k is the number you need to live in Manhattan long term (kids, retirement, college funds, vacations, etc).

$190k is still a lot of money in New York. Your take home is probably about $126k. A 2 bedroom averages $3600 a month in the city. That leaves $82,800 for everything else. Not to mention added income of a spouse.

Maybe if you want to ride the subway for an hour every day.

Depends on how many kids. We have two and may have a third. This is our last year in the city. If we are going to drop a ton of money on a place then we will get a house, not another apartment.

That wouldn't fuel Gordon's helicopter for a month.

How many hours a week do you think people that make $190k a year work? Do you think that people making 6 figures punch a time card?

You asking how much a lawyer in a big name firm works?

A lot. 55 hours a week is probably the minimum amount required to not get shitcanned. Probably need to average 60-65 if you want to move up in the firm.

Lawyers at firms typically have to account for their billable hours.

I am only making a point that you don’t make 6 figures working a job 9 - 5 and not brining work home with you...Particularly in your first year. 40 hour per week jobs cap out around $70k unless you own the company.

One of my nephews right out of law school started at $275K. I believe his student loans were close to that amount as well. But, he married an attorney so income is not an issue.

And here I am......
