Far more people moved to Vermont, Idaho, Oregon and South Carolina than left during the pandemic, according to data provided to Bloomberg News by United Van Lines. On the other hand, the reverse was true for New York and New Jersey, which saw residents moving to Florida, Texas and other Sunbelt states between March and July.

As August closes Monday with another move-out deadline, signs point to a sharp turn in U.S. mobility. Relocations had reached an all-time low in 2019, according to the Brookings Institution’s tracking.

“We have seen increased mobility across the states -- driven by a fear of living in densely populated areas, a realization that the ‘old normal’ of commuting into a city office is still but a distant possibility, and the realization that remote work can be an effective, long-term option,” said Gregory Daco, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics.

The beneficiaries have been competitors to dense cities that seem too crowded in a public-health emergency. Cities in Florida, Texas, California and North Carolina accounted for just under half of New Yorker relocations, data from United Van Lines show.

Honestly, most people I meet here from the northeast (NY/NJ) and the Midwest (Ohio mainly) are Republicans. Pre-pandemic anyway.

Everywhere outside of Portland is amaze in Oregon, and even Portland’s hatred is overblown. Lots of beautiful spots outside the city and great food in Portland.

Lots of good people-mostly former Californians that hate California

ETA: actually eastern Oregon is ugly as frick but the rest of the state is magical

If you’re from New Jersey or New York and you fled your Democrat dominated state because of Democrat dominated policies.... you would have to be a complete and utter fool to continue those same voting habits when you move to a red state.

Seriously it’s okay to admit that you were wrong in the voting booth by voting blue. Learn from that mistake, never do it again, and enjoy your new life in a freedom loving red state

I spent a couple of weeks with some friends that have lived in Boise all their lives. Cali and Oregon folks headed there and paying premiums.

Amazes me just a simple state abbreviation brings on this response. The same state that thought Chris Christie was awesome but bankrupted them. CC, who was a hero to the right and Trump. New Jersey. 100% Libs now. Incredible.

And apparently if you're from NY state, you're a queer loving SJW. SMH.
