You can see the old can in the picture above, he stated it was filled with tannerite. There was a mass of "C4" on top that looked like clay. There was what he stated was the decibel meter but it looked like a standard cheapo piezoelectric buzzer. That could be used as a low voltage trigger but there didn't appear to be any battery to ignite a blasting cap nor any visible cap.

If it was C4 on the top of the can it would produce a (poor) shape charge effect but it would direct the blast downward. There didn't appear to be any secondary wiring to say an ANFO bomb in the bed (plus the truck was sitting level) and while a HV explosive in the cab might trigger ANFO in the bed it is unlikely. I've seen a stick of military dynamite go off 2 feet away from 500 pounds of ANFO (someone forgot to drop it in before filling the whole) and it didn't set it off.

It appeared like a horribly fake bomb but it may just have been a very poorly built rudimentary bomb made to look real to his eyes. Then again it could have been a very professional bomb made to look shitty but I am not sure what the motive for that would be.

I have seen newly minted 12Bs build cleaner and more professional looking devices in field expedient training with a coffee can, nails, some C4 and other assorted bits.
