Never will be "legalized" on the Federal level but on a state by state basis all will likely do it in the next 10 years.

Not getting into the multitude of reasons federal wont happen but #1 is money.

We deal with people who think it’ll be easy to open a cannabis business every day.
I'm a grower who provides to dispensaries in the state of oregon. I prefer that to retail, but it would be fun to have a storefront to just sell my own.

I knew you were in the industry. That’s why I said you’re smarter than thinking a residential property in uptown could be converted to a dispensary.

TBH I probably would rather have a store on 49 between Alexandria and Lafayette, or off I10 between Lafayette and Baton Rouge than just a new orleans location.

All hypothetical of course. Ideally though, walking distance within LSU campus would be fun.

How much lobbying does the local sheriffs department do at the federal level? I assure you it is minuscule in comparison to the resources available to big pharmaceutical companies.

The agencies are not making the decision to legalize marijuana. The legislature needs to revise the criminal code.

You think people with the DEA and federal law enforcement don’t lobby against decriminalization because it would potentially put some of them out of a job?

That’s a bit naive.

The President cannot (unilaterally) issue an EO to deschedule a drug. There's actually a process for this, but it takes years of research and studies. The process includes studies that are to be conducted by the DEA and FDA. Wanna take a guess what conclusions their studies would come to?

The work has already been done, but ignored for political reasons...

The cartels have a vested interest
And so does the US Govt..

CIA has used drugs for covert cash funding for over half a century. The CIA is the largest, best organized, Drug cartel on the planet.

Look up "Air America", the Korean War CIA Operation using US Military transport aircraft to buy from Asian Warlords (enemy) and distribute into the USA.

GHW Bush as Head of CIA was in Central America personally to conduct high level Narco Terrorism negotiations. How else would Manuel Noriega, the President of a Nation, be involved unless it was with very high level other nations governments officials?

Then there was the Iran/Contra Affair. Lt. Col. Oliver North and his role in the importation of cocaine to L.A. that subsequently led to the crack epidemic.

It was the CIA that had our military protecting the Afghan opium trade. (wanna know the source of the street opiates causing the USA Drug Epidemic? 3 letters: C I A)

It’s a bit naive to think that federal agencies have more lobbying power than the pharmaceutical companies that can essentially bribe the legislature.

I must have missed all the legal adult use dispensaries in New Orleans last time I was there.

It was decriminalized in Oregon in the 70’s yet didn’t have dispensaries.

Almost like it had to be legal or something.....

Well, since it is legal to purchase in some states already, the answer would be zero. If you're talking about growing your own, some states allow that also (regulated) so the answer is still zero. If you mean unregulated, do whatever the hell you want and grow as much as you want AND sell it on your own, probably never as they would have no control over their cut in taxes.

The government won't do it until Willie dies. They don't want him on TV, advertising during the Action News at 5:00. Those spots are currently available only to the TV Lawyers. "One call, that's all" if Willie comes right after smiling as he takes a hit it makes Wooten and Wooten got me my money ads look bad. If they would limit TV pot ads to 7:30 or later, it would happen tomorrow and the 700 empty old Walmart Stores across our nation, would suddenly have some value, other than the value of a broken parking lot with a flea market.
