It's gonna suck trying to climb up that ladder to get to the sky lounge while the plane is flying 550mph.

So if it crashes will the reactor crack open?
Probably not, the reactor is going to be pretty small making containment and shielding less of a issue. Even thought this aircraft is enormous it doesn’t require a reactor that would typically power a city. There is evidence the air force built a prototype nuclear powered 4 engine bomber in the early 1950s, but it is unknown if it ever flew.

One thing to point out here - the author is saying that the power would be supplied by nuclear fusion, which likely makes it entirely unrealistic in any of our lifetimes.
Between the parasitic losses required to sustain fusion, the equipment required to contain the plasma, and the infrastructure required to actually convert the heat from fusion into electricity.. viable fusion generators are likely to be enormous. Think 1+ GW range. We are a long way off from that, much less small mobile fusion generators.
If they were talking about nuclear fission I would agree. Fusion is an entirely different animal.

imagine if that shite crashes

Where will it get potable water from? I guess it’ll just drop untreated sewage on the poors below.

All good until the reactor has to scram and it falls out the sky.

I've watched too many episodes of Air Disasters on the Smithsonian Channel to ever want to fly this...

What’s the maximum drink policy?

the world has tried this. It's not remotely practical. There's a reason everyone stopped trying a long time ago.

My grandfather worked on the project in Georgia. It never flew according to him.

Well that’s just not true.

I seem to remember that the shielding made it practically unusable.

Once they figure out the fusion part, and make it portable, there is still the issue of the 200 mile long runway.

A technology we haven't been able to make work.....

Why are people acting like this could ever in any way be possible?
How fast would something that big and have have to be going to achieve liftoff?

They can just use that one on which they filmed the final action sequence of “Fast & Furious 6.”
