Were they racist or an honest statement regarding his first hand observations at that point in time?
It doesn't matter if the statements were true and backed by facts or not. He was a meanie so he must be cancelled.

n 1903, when Gandhi was in South Africa, He also said black people "are troublesome, very dirty and live like animals."
So nothing has changed in over a 100 yrs.

Anything historically viewed as "good" has to be tarnished now to discredit the past and the morality established through that past.
Or maybe we shouldn't see history in categories like "good" and "evil". Historical figures are humans, they're flawed and complicated just like all of us. When we build them up to be myths, the reality can't live up to it and people get upset that the myths aren't real. It's actually a good article:
quote:
Nehru famously replied that Gandhi was "a great man, but he had his weaknesses, his moods and his failings." He begged Attenborough not to turn Gandhi into a saint. He was "much too human," Nehru said.

You're so precious.
NPR is reporting a movement that is happening.
Unless you mean they are orchestrating the movement.

Did you read the article?
A) Gandhi was a racist early in his life. No doubt about it, even if it was par for the course culturally.
B) He slept naked with his grandniece to test his celibacy.
Otherwise, the article was pretty well done.

They were racist and ironic considering the British powers shared the same opinion of Ghandi and his people at the time.

Roger, what specifically do you feel was inaccurate in the story?

My response was in regard to NPR, not the story
However the story is written from a certain perspective which isn't objective

Want to avoid criticism from NPR?
Declare yourself Muslim. They will defend anything and everything you say and do.

Um you guys are pussies
Penn and Teller bullshite the most uber libertarian show of all time did a hit piece on Ghandi at least a decade ago
This has nothing to do with being SJW and everything to do with honestly appraising the life of someone who is undeservedly revered as a great man when he really was a racist POS that loved to sodomize teenage girls
Posted on 10/3/19 at 10:38 am to phutureisyic
well that's one strategy to get banned

I thought it was a well known fact that Gandhi was a bit of a racist, just like it's well known that MLK was an abusive, philandering misogynist.
Doesn't undermine either of their messages or legacies, except for those who are looking for reasons to.

Just like when the libertarians Penn and Teller did essentially the same story in 2005?
