It is. Trashy just like when it happens with other sports. It seems even more trashy and petty in cheerleading competitions than when it happens in sports where there is actual physical contact between competing teams as it is a little more natural to at least get angry with adrenaline flowing if kid gets flagrantly hit late or hard fouled and then maybe into some pushing & shoving with other team after it happens (more so when it happens multiple times). Even with those it shouldn’t turn into more than just a flash of anger unless something extremely outside of normal game play happens like the other kid plays the knock out game by blindsiding your kid with a haymaker like the kid in the high school basketball game a couple of weeks ago or other parents start trying to attack your kid or family in some way.
I struggle to find how anger towards an opposing player or their parents even starts up in non-contact and indirect competitions decided by judges.

You don't exactly post online when your daughter came in 5/6 teams.
As a dad of multiple daughters it is ridiculous, no doubt. Cheer, dance, anything women competition frankly. Yes there are so many groups they end up actually competing against very few.
But the "national championships" in Orlando for HS kids had 15-30 teams in each bracket. So certainly most did not win.

I had to pull one dad aside, that I know personally, at a travel hockey tournament this year in Boston to remind him that these kids are only 10 and 11. He was ready to check knuckles with this a-hole Canadian dad. Not worth it for a 10 year olds hockey game, get a grip people.

That is what caused the mass hysteria? There has to be more.
One of my wife’s best friends was there and the scene she described was horrifying for any parent.
She just said a stampede of people came running their way screaming about shots fired and for everyone to run. She and her 11 year old daughter ran to their room. They were legit terrified.
Whoever started the mass panic over that, if that is all there was, needs to be beat.
