Anyone have experience working at Edward Jones. I hear they have a great training program, I'm in O&G industry and was looking to for a career change. I don't drive a jacked F450 with bull nuts. Just wasn't sure about leaving my current employment for a much lower based salary and small commissions. They have a great sales pitch so far but something doesn't seem right. The base salary would decrease over three years. Also, not real sure about benefits being that I have good insurance currently but never know when another layoff will happen.

Decent place to start. You'll want to move elsewhere at some point. And if you are in O&G you are going to be disappointed in your earnings. It takes 5 years to build that business up to an acceptable level.

Yea I figured as much I was hoping in 2 1/2-3 yrs i'd be at my salary now and continue moving forward. It would be a way to own my own business. I would have my own location in 6 months allegedly and they would pay for my training as well and pay me a salary.

Broke is correct, it is a great place to start. EJ catches a lot of shite here, especially on the MB but to start out in the industry and get trained, they are second to none. It is a brutal industry in itself and you will piss folks off but the trade off can be worth it.
As you grow in the business and if it makes sense to you, I agree there are better firms for higher net worth clients and bigger book advisors.

What about commercial insurance for O&G companies or sales for a services company? There is still a lot of money in that industry not directly involved with drilling/production. Anyone have any experience with sales related jobs in this field?

Were you an advisor there at some point? Seem like you know alot about the way they conduct their business. Seems like after year 3 you start to build your business. But financial advisors usually don't stay for that long b/c its mostly commission based. But EJ is offering me a starting salary if I accept the contract

My financial advisor is with Northwestern Mutual. A colleague gave him my info and I was eventually open to talking to him because I had a legit need for a planner, and I value what he does for me.
They do ask you to provide names of people you know who may benefit from their services and they do follow up with them. But if you need a planner, would you rather have one that comes recommended, or pick a name out of a website and randomly call them?
I think he makes good money, but he also has a decent number of letters after his name and a team of people that work for him.
