The base salary would decrease over three years. Also, not real sure about benefits being that I have good insurance currently but never know when another layoff will happen.
The real pay is always in the base salary. Base is guaranteed. Commissions are not.

Forgot to mention. My Northwestern Mutual guy is from New Orleans, and I think he might have gone to LSU.

I have my life insurance through them and they got me good rates.
Their office was very professional with no high pressure sales.

This is false. Don't ever forget it. It's Edward Jones' business and they let you run it. The only way for you to "Truly" own your business is to go independent and clear your business through one of the large independent brokers. The day you decide to move, more than likely (although not always), they will pursue you in court.

EJ is offering me a starting salary if I accept the contract
Can't be too much. I'd be shocked if it were 40k or more. Is there a draw involved?

Its based off my current salary. Offer they said will be over 50 to start. Someone mentioned if after some time I decided to leave EJ they would pursue me in court if I would leave and go to another company? Wondering if this is true. Thx

You'd need to take a REAL good look at the noncompete. Because your clients will have a relationship with you moreso than Edward Jones. And if you decided to leave, EJ isn't going to be ok with that entire book of business walking as well.

understandable, I'm looking to get out of the O&G industry and have my last assessment tomorrow. Just looking on thoughts on EJ and if anyone worked there or had success in the Financial Advisor positions.

Are they requiring you to knock on doors?
Posted on 7/16/15 at 4:52 pm to Paul Allen
Yes in the beginning to build up my business.

I wouldn't have my own office with all the expenses I would most likely share an office at first and in 6-12 months get my own office. I may be able to get some of that person's lower assets in the beginning. Not sure it's worth the risk though but hey I can get laid off tomorrow in the industry that I am in now esp after the Iran deal and oil continually dropping.

I wonder how long that process will last?

Not really sure I have my assessment this afternoon

The book of business you build does not belong to you, it will belong to EJ. So, when you leave them you cannot actively pursue those clients. If you do then EJ may take legal actions. There are ways around this but it can happen.

Thanks I completely understand this and makes sense.

That's an entirely different program. You need to know if that's what you are doing. And I'll tell you right now, no way your base is going to be 50 grand. No possible way.

You need to first ascertain how many original agents that were "hired" are still employed by NWM. With that, you may understand that these will likely be the only people that you may ever sell. Really what happens is that you call 300, meet 30, and sell 10. Then you end up leaving this job because you can't earn money while those who you sold stay with NWM paying their premium and you no longer collect your commissions from the insurer.
Replace Northwestern Mutual with Edward Jones and you could say the exact same thing.
