Louisiana desperately needs to convene a new constitutional convention. Between the terrible structure of their higher education systems and the tax structure, Louisiana is killing itself.

Too many protected state departments, too many special interest projects. Too many wasteful campuses.

Blow it up and start over

Louisiana should split as a State. South La people want nothing to do with the North.

As LSU succumbs to the disease of progressivism, Tech might win a bunch more fans.

I think they should shut down at least two universities in the state, then shovel cash into LSU and La Tech. Because they both could improve with the right support.

It's too bad that LSU made a terrible hire for system president.

A president of a university isn't above the institution. Im willing to see how Tate does, at this point you can only assume.. South Carolina tried to keep him from leaving his position there, but either way the position is a revolving door.

I think Alexander held the position long than any other president (or close to it)... 8 years. La Tech is a pretty good school, a good engineering program, but no.. it shouldn't be the flagship school of the state.

I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's probably not a bad political hire for rankings and grants. He's got experience so he isn't completely clueless. I am worried that private fundraising will dry up though.

But they thought that about Alexander and he was a fricking disaster.

And like Alexander, I think Tate will use LSU as a stepping stone.

Shutting down might have made sense 10-15 years ago. Could not afford to today. The legacy pension debt and bond obligations are more than state appropriations. Any closure that loses student-based revenue is actually more expensive for the state. Counterintuitive, but true.

Can't say I disagree with Sam. I'm a graduate of LSU. Season ticket holder... whole nine yards. Both parents are grads.... With that being said, I've started to push my daughter in a different direction. LSU mad a horrible choice in selecting a race pimp as president. I'm done donating and I will not pay for my child to go there. I'm all for LA Tech getting flagship status.

Ruston is a beautiful town with nice people and a very low crime rate compared to BR. Tech has its flaws but so far has escaped the nonsense that LSU has fallen into.

Texas has two. Technically, Alabama does as well. Georgia doesn't, but Georgia Tech (by most measures) is superior to the state's flagship.
