A North Carolina mom was mauled to death by a pit bull she adopted only a week previously.
Suzanne Story, 36, died in her Snug Harbor home after the dog attacked her Wednesday afternoon.
Story's family said she got the dog from Virginia for free after spotting an advertisement in a newspaper. Her stepfather Randy Brown said that the pit bull’s previous owners told her it was well behaved and good with young children.
"I think they had a problem with the dog and didn't know how to handle it, and they were just trying to get rid of it, and they did," Brown told 13 News Now, noting that the move resulted in a death.

Neighbors said they saw Story walking the pit bull a few days ago and noticed that the woman was having trouble controlling the large brown-and-white dog.
"Seen her walking the dog, and the dog was really pulling her, and she was struggling to maintain control from her driveway to her front door," said Jonathan Nash.

Well, she won't make that mistake again.

I'm just being honest here, but getting the that kind of dog, under those circumstances, with her diminutive appearance wasn't the best idea.

Your dogs were most likely bred and raised properly. A neglected and/or abused dog regardless of breed can be a major problem. Also nothing is mentioned of the owner's experience. A well intentioned but unsuitable owner is just as bad as an abusive one.

Unless you personally know the Pit bull you cant get a full grown pit from someone. They will turn on a 2nd owner in a heart beat. If you get them from puppy and put the fear of god in them when they are young they will never show a tooth to you. I used to raise pits, definitely know alot about them

Very sad. She made a mistake out of being a caring person and I hope she RIP.

So ballpark it for us, roughly how many deaths are you indirectly responsible for?

Without a doubt, the best and most accurate post I've seen in any pit bull thread.

They should really treat pits like wild hogs. No bag limit, no tag required and open all year. Just a hunting license is needed.

If it had been a dog with a little less power she probably would have gotten away. This is the lions share of why pits are so dangerous. Look how thick that SOB is around the head and neck.

What a horrible way to die.

Not that it matters, but the dog doesn't look like a straight pit to me.
It looks more like a pit/american bulldog cross.
