I don't see any hope of that area coming back in any real way. There is just nothing redeeming at all.

We all know the reason's why it changed for the worse, but in talking with friends who used to live there, it was how fast it happened and in such a big area that is pretty amazing.

After about 10 hours, police have removed the crime scene tape. Here is where the suspect barricaded himself in.

As bad as the east is and that neighborhood where this occurred off Lake Forest.... the real war zone is over there in Pines Village between Dowman and I10.... holy shite not long ago I brought a coworker home at night and dropped him off two blocks across the steeet from Vison's in that neighborhood and I swear every little turn they had hood rats blocking the streets looking like they were waiting for me to stop to rob me. It's the most Wild West I think I've ever encountered in America.

we need more community programs for these young gentlemen

my dad was a firefighter at Engine 4 on Downman Rd. for years

my extended family owns a hardware store on Downman... nothing but cheap cell phone stores and dollar stores... and of course the two strip clubs that are right across the street from each other... on Downman now

It's very sad. Prayer's for the officer's family. That poor little baby won't grow up with a daddy.

Onions.

I got turned around in The Bottoms (between Highland and Nicholson in BR) one day when I was a new driver and holy frick I was scared out of my mind. It was like I was in Mogadishu. They were just wandering around in the middle of the day in nothing but shorts and socks just looking for shite to frick up.

my family's hardware store has business dealings with some of those apartment complexes around that area... the couple trips I took to help supply them... let's just say they were places I wouldn't want to be once the sun went down

at least 2 or 3 murders at those complexes while I was working at the hardware store

I admire the frick out of NOPD. I could not do it. If I were to be a cop, I'd go be a State Trooper or LSUPD or Ascension/St. Tammany Sheriff. No way in hell would I pick NOPD or BRPD so I can be cannon fodder for ghetto trash.

My father was a visionary when it came to NO East. In 1970 or so he bought a lot out there off Morrison and Crowder, the streets were just being built in the subdivision. He got plans drawn for the house, was about to start building when he turned sour on that area. He said that the area would not be a desirable area long-term. He sold the lot, bought land in Metairie, built house in 1973, my mom still lives in the house.
Thank God he had the forsite not to build out there, the house he built in Metairie for $50K is now worth about $400K.

Considering it is NOLA East, you can take one guess and figure it out.

With great sadness, we mourn the loss of a brother officer of @NOPDNews early this morning. We stand with our brothers and sisters in the in NOPD in this difficult time as they grieve the loss of a defender of our community and a member of our blue family.
