Colleague attending convention had purse stolen at a bar on Bourbon St. on Saturday afternoon. Now having to work with airlines TSA etc. so she can get back on the plane to go home. While she doesn’t need a copy of the actual police report she wanted one anyway and was sent to the 8th precinct because they were likely able to produce it. After walking there she was Tops no she couldn’t get a copy and they said it will be 2 weeks still and gave her a paper titled what to do when you lose your ID.....

I am embarrassed to be from NOLA on days like this but I also know she was lucky they just swiped her purse.

This is likely their inability to simply get a report done before she got there.

They probably faked taking notes at the site of the incident and then threw the paper away as soon as they left. Stolen purse means nothing in NOLA.

If the convention business is so lucrative you would think the would expedite documents for these problems. Why wouldn’t there be a task force/position in the NOPD for this? Hell Boston PD called me back in no time over a taxi complaint.

The times I've needed a copy of a police report, I've always been directed to the department's record keeping office which has always been separate from precinct buildings. Does NOPD not have a centralized records office?

Family member was involved in a pretty significant traffic accident on Canal St. They and the insurance company tried for weeks to get a copy of the report so the car could get fixed. NOPD made excuse after excuse until the family member called me knowing I was close friends with a Captain. I went down to his office and he pulled up the case number in the system. The Officer just flat arse never did the report despite the other dozen excuses they had made. The Captain called the officer to his office and made him sit out in the hall and write the report while I waited. They filed it and gave me a copy.

Point being, no way that report is written already if they can’t produce it.

I told her to raise the issue with visitors bureau and with AAO as well not that it will help much but it’s worth a try.

You could do this:

Or you can call the records office dailly, bothering the hell out of them untill they produce it. I hope she got an incident number.......

Being from out of town, they might not have given it priority......

Good luck.

Even with the item number they will tell you 2-2.5 weeks. It usually takes longer than that anyway.

My God. That's some shite I'd expect in Mexico or some other shithole, but I guess NOLA is nearing that level.

Only time I have needed a report was a few years ago when I was at LSU and someone hit my while backing out. It took LSUPD ten days and I thought that was excessive, but the report got done.

No no no, my good man. Louisiana made history today with JBE's announcement. I was told by trusting politicians.

NOLA will lead the Future.

Police report isn’t gonna magically conjure up the purse. That thing is long gone

You can fly without an ID, it's harder, but you can.
