Is anyone else tired of the garbage the "journalists" over at the Times Picayune post on the NOLA.com website? I have lost count of how many times I have seen typo errors, bad information, or just writers reporting their feelings/assumptions rather than what the actual facts of the story are. It seems that the phrase, "Story has been corrected."; or "Story has been updated." is a running joke among the writers over at NOLA.com. Sorry, just venting.

Wow...what a great thread title. I could really tell what this post was going to be about just by reading the title.

I stopped reading NOLA about 2 years ago. It's terrible and I refuse to read articles that are linked here.

You should start your own hard print and digital media journalism company and take over the local market.

The Dailey Reveille is where I go for my unbiased and factually backed up news.

Also there are never any grammatical or spelling errors.

Ever.

their attempts at research are so often terrible too. its always entertaining watching them reply in the comments to people that ask the obvious questions the reporter should have addressed from the start.

It's not just NOLA.com. Editing, or just simple spell checking, seems to be non-existent on many news sites.

It is a double-edged sword. If they took their time and triple-checked everything, some other publication would get it out first. If they don't check, the accuracy suffers.

Its the mobile internet as a medium and the "always-on" culture that drives journalism today.

I have heard this excuse before and let me call it what it is. bullshite.

It takes too long to proof a story for errors? How long? Because I see the errors in my one pass of reading the story. So you are telling me that reading the story ONCE after writing it is going to cost them the scoop? Again, bullshite.

I get what you are saying, but consider the backlog of each writer having to submit to a proofreader. You see the errors because you see it fresh... Mind's eye kinda thing.

Also, the BBC is terrible with the typos.

The worst is when they get into arguments in the comments.

You had your chance to get your point across in the article. Now sit back and watch your shitty "journalism" career implode

The writing is consistently bad with many errors.

They also have a lot of obvious troll pieces too.

I have done professional writing so I have some background on this. I hear this excuse all the time and it isn't acceptable to me. "Proofreader?" Hell, that's even less of an excuse. We are talking basic spelling and grammar. These alleged journalists should be ashamed of something going out under their byline with a misspelled word or basic grammatical error.

NOLA.com is straight trash. Tons of spelling and grammatical mistakes. Transplant journalists that are constantly mis-identifying neighborhoods. Slideshows and videos instead of articles. Jimmy Smith. Jarvis Deberry. Oh, and their page is like 50% Doerr Furniture ads.

This is happens when they've cut back on personnel....copy editors were some of the first to be let go. There aren't nearly as many available eyes to proofread much of anything anymore.

they sure do have lots of people that havent been around the city long. and having cut a lot of the team, it shows in their writing that they dont have enough "locals" in the office to help support the transplants, or listen to their ideas. simply having someone like that to bounce ideas off of would go a long way in them presenting coherent stories.
