If only 24% are white and 6% black, are the other 70% Asian? I want to say that can't be right, but then again...

quote:

Barely half of high school graduates — 56% — go to college and only 75% of those students will be enrolled in the second year, according to figures compiled by the state Department of Education.
The average composite ACT score for the Class of 2021 was 18.2 of a possible 36, which is below what experts say is needed for college readiness.

Only 16% of today's high school graduates earn an advanced academic or career credential. Of that group, 24% are White students, 6% are Black students and 9% live in low-income homes.

Only 56% go to college, and that is with LA basically giving you free college.

tougher rules could be coming for high schools

Yes, Asians dominate for college entrance.

Does an 18 on the ACT actually get you anything from the State?

If existing standards were enforced the failure rate would triple. Basically at most of our dysfunctional schools if you show up and do anything you pass and teachers are given a quota on how many dolts they can fail.

With the price of college, I’m not exactly surprised.

I’m sure someone will show up to say “but muh networking” as if that isn’t possible outside the grounds of a university.

Did a shitload of networking at LSU, still only landed a decent job due to family connections. In hindsight, I could’ve went to community college and had a down payment for a house left over. Oh well

Sadly true, though I’ve never seen actual quotas used. The kids know it, and unless they’re being pushed at home or have intrinsic motivation (very rare) to do well in school, they just do enough to pass.

Holy crap this is bad. Not surprised though.

Now I wish they could do a comparison for the private schools. Hell even St. Aug, which is nothing special these days had a 100% college acceptance last year. It's just a different game when the school, parents, and kids care about such things.

So roughly half were in the mid to low teens. That's just downright sad but not surprising

Iirc, isn't the act dumbed down from 20 years ago or so?

Couldn't they just fill in their name correctly and guess at all the answers and still make a 12?

You graduated college and still typed out, “could’ve went

You should have a seat on the side and let the grown ups talk.

I think that was done by adjusting how it was scored around that amount of time ago. I have no idea on the details of how that adjustment was made.

I read just fine, you don't think this is odd.

Over 94% of the state of Louisiana is either black or white, however 70% of the high students that earn an advanced academic credential are neither black nor white.

That’s funny because I recall reading not too long ago that doing math/algebra was part of the cultural appropriation and things white people stole from Africa
