NOLA trying to mimic BR traffic-I-10 open

Overturned 18wheeler eastbound near Veterans. Another car in the canal below. 18wheeler on Fire.
They have it all closed at Loyola going eastbound and westbound at Clearview.

All of this is a fact. I drove 2 years from Hammond to NOLA and 5 years from Hammond to BR. I just started making the drive again to New Orleans and it's every bit as terrible as I remember it.

But the thing about NO and Metairie traffic, if need be, there’s ways to get around it..

NOLA traffic is bad, but for the most part once you exit the interstate you’re clear. In BR you can’t escape it. It’s miserable.

Older cities like New Orleans were properly planned and they understood the value of public boulevards.
I never sit in traffic in New Orleans and Metairie. Ever. There's always a way to get around the traffic before you even get caught in it. There are boulevards every five blocks and all the side streets cut through to everything else.
The problem with cities like Baton Rouge is they were mostly built during a time period when developers had taken over and wanted to squeeze every square foot of land. For every boulevard that's another row or two of houses or lots that can't be sold. Compounding the problem is the desire for people to want to live in private neighborhoods, which means none of the side streets cut through to anything. Many of these neighborhoods have one way in and one way out.
This is the same problem with traffic in Austin and many other newer American cities that experienced most of their growth in latter half of the 20th century.
It also helps that a lot of people in New Orleans and other old Urban cities utilize public transportation, bicycle and/or live downtown near their jobs. These suburban sprawl cities like Baton Rouge, all have the same traffic problems.

I lived in BR and commuted to New Orleans for about a year. I now live in New Orleans. I can tell you with full confidence that the only times I would sit in traffic commuting from BR would be a little bit of it when I got to kenner both ways, and then a lot on my commute back to BR when I would get to Siegen on the interstate.
As long as you don't leave extremely late (before 7:30), then you really shouldn't hit any traffic in New Orleans unless there's a wreck on the interstate. I work in the CBD.
New Orleans has not had bad traffic since before Katrina. Even then it wasnt that bad.

If you haven’t hit the spillway yet, I think Airline from Laplace is the only other option, unless you want to go back up to the north end of Causeway.
I’d go Airline to Hickory in Harahan, and take Hickory up to Earhart.
