Air bnb is fricking up rent though.

This is why I moved to Texas. When the mayor of your city gets in front of a podium and says “landlords are asking too much money for rent for our people” you can’t make someone who owns a property give you a discounted price just because you’re black

you think millennials can afford to buy homes in this city that are fresh out of college then you are out of touch with reality.
Millennials are most generally accepted to be defined as those with birth years ranging from 1980 - 1995. Which makes the current age range for millennials oldest at late 30s and youngest at early 20s.
The very vast majority of millennials have been out of college for some time. And a great many millennials own their own homes.
Also, I have lived in New Orleans my entire life. Myself and plenty of friends are home owners. We rarely if ever talk about much less give a shite about transplants and gentrification. We go to work, raise our families, spend time with our friends, and occasionally find time to enjoy our city. We don't bitch every day about stupid nonsense.
However, I know quote a few western transplants that came here in their late teens and early 20s and rent in the warehouse district and downtown and bitch incessantly about things they think aren't "genuine nawlins", the problems with gentrification, and other invented social problems.
They're akin to Butter's family and their Hawaiian ancestors.

They might be renting, but they sure as shite aren’t buying up real estate.
I think you're the one out of touch with reality. Clearly running your mouth about something that you don't understand and trying to speak for the residents of an entire city you weren't raised in while feeling mentally superior and ignoring actual facts. Typical transplant yuppie idiot.

I'm betting "we" doesn't look anything like the majority of voters in NOLA. Good luck with that.

I'm from North Louisiana. There's not a hipster or barista within 100 miles.

Maybe if residents like yourself bitched a little more and stopped carrying on with this “it’s not a problem until it’s directly my problem” mentality then the city might see some positive change. What will it take for you to open your mouth and speak up? I’ve encountered apathetic individuals like you before. You don’t say shite until it’s something of yours at stake and then you want to jump on the bandwagon and be vocal. You characterizing the issues I outlined as stupid nonsense tells me everything I need to know. Your indifference makes you basically complicit. You might as well be driving the getaway car or be the lookout

The issues you outlines were specifically: people bitching about transplants and entitled Millennials, which is both stupid nonsense and I'm pretty a misuse of the term by you because I don't think you know what a millennial is.

There is not much I can do for this city, friend. It's a sad and depressing reality. I love this city with every bit of my heart and soul. New Orleans has the potential to be a truly great city but it is hamstrung by its own citizens. The supermajority of this city needs to change its inner workings and communities. I cannot change them. I do however volunteer a great deal of my time to a few organizations and charities with the expressed goal of helping to educate and mentor the youth of my city and improve the communities they live in.

I want Nola and br to both get republican leadership and stop catering to the blood sucking leeches that bring the cities down.

hell no. I'm nomadic. I'm all over the south part of the state. My dogs live in Carencro.

My only issue with Airbnb in this city is that the property managers advertise these rentals as “walking distance to the French quarter”. These rentals may be only a few blocks away but they are still in the heart of the hood. Robbing bachelorette parties instaying in airbnb’s in the 7th ward Is about as Nola as K&B and red beans and rice Monday’s.

"When was NOLA great?"
NOLA was the Queen City of the South in the 1950s. Atlanta and Houston were very small compared to NOLA. Now NOLA is a drunken party backwater.

The people I know that leave Nola are leaving for one, or both, of 2 reasons:
1. Too expensive to buy a decent house in a decent area.
2. Public schools are not an option and privates are outrageously expensive.
I left for better pay and lower cost of living.

This is so true. It seems that transplants care more about transplants and gentrification.
