You’re bitching about Airbnb, but it was inevitable this was going to happen. It’s a city that caters to tourists. Maybe if the money was allocated to fixing the damn infrastructure and dealing with the crime people would feel compelled to maintain residence and not move somewhere safer where the individuals that pay taxes and actually pump money into the economy are taken into account. This has been coming down the pipeline for awhile. We’ve got areas that flood out during a goddamn rain storm because the sewage and water board is shite show operation and you’re worried about your neighbor turning his private residence into an Airbnb?

So where you from and how much money did you bring?
Surely its enough to travel back to your previous utopia.

The people who are leaving NOLA are leaving because they can't afford to live here.

Is this a FOX News mad gab or did you actually type all this shite out yourself?

Lol, if you think millennials can afford to buy homes in this city that are fresh out of college then you are out of touch with reality. They might be renting, but they sure as shite aren’t buying up real estate.
Posted on 6/18/18 at 11:32 am to Maverick01
You’re right. I bought a house with R1 zoning completely surrounded by R1 zoning. I “should have known” it was coming before it existed.

The people I know that leave Nola are leaving for one, or both, of 2 reasons:
1. Too expensive to buy a decent house in a decent area.
2. Public schools are not an option and privates are outrageously expensive.

Real estate prices didn’t just start going up. These individuals that can’t afford to live in Nola have hunkered down and have no intention of leaving. They can’t afford to pack up their shite and leave, so they either work 2 to 3 menial hospitality jobs to afford renting a place, relegate thenselves to a life of begging and living off the system, or they start stealing shite to survive.

I should clarify. They cant afford to live there in the means that could in any other city in the state. You say this like, ha they just cant afford to live here in this great city, when the more expensive ti gets the more areas will become run down because the trash will move in and they dont care how they live.

The people graduating college recently are millennials by pretty much every standard.

The younger end has a ton of overlap just like the older end does. 1994-1996 is seen as the beginning of gen Z by several researchers.
The vast majority of millennials are 5+ years out of college.

The transplants are liberals and self-entitled. The lifers are and have been complaining about an entirely different demographic in the city

Everyone I know that left has been completely happy with their decision to leave. It's just not a city that's suitable for normal people.
Everyone that still lives there passes off all of the negatives as just eccentricities of New Orleans, and makes excuses for everything.
I'd rather live somewhere that I can go home, relax, and be comfortable. In no way is that the chocolate city. I don't have to worry about being assaulted, robbed, my car broken into, people sleeping or pissing in my yard, or even having to constantly argue with liberals about every little thing. It's great

People who truly want to live in the city find a way to do so. You either purchase a smaller home in a more desirable area (e.g. Lakeview or the prominent parts of Uptown) or you by one of the many remodeled or newly built homes in the marginal areas. If they're not willing to pay the higher costs per square foot for a home, they move out to the Northshore or River Ridge. There are not any areas in the city that are declining due to homeowners leaving, it's the opposite, actually. This is not the white flight of the 1950s.
