Response to a theft - I got lucky
Some of the finer points in bold for the tl;dr crowd.

I moved from the West Bank to Broadmoor a year ago, and in that time we've had bikes, a grill, a lawnmower, some tools, etc stolen from the backyard and front porch. I've filed reports in the past without much expectation that anything would happen.
Friday night, it happened again. A guy broke into the backyard and made off with my yard cart filled with a bunch of my things, including my prized crawfish boil pot and burner. The crazy thing was, I saw him walking up S Claiborne with all my stuff, so I tried calling NOPD. It was the middle of the night, so they didn't respond in any timely manner (no surprise there). In my frustration, I did a stupid thing and tried to go confront this guy. In short, his crackhead thief energy was more intimidating than my unarmed white boy energy, so he got away.
This morning, driving down S Claiborne, I see him again still pulling around my yard cart, which is now full of his stuff. I decided to try NOPD again, and this time they showed up very quickly and actually arrested the guy. Turns out he was wanted for multiple other offenses. They released the cart to me as recovered property, and I went home.
The whole experience has left me bitter. I will say I was surprised to see how respectful the cops were being with this guy, even as he got very belligerent with them. That said, I can't help but feel guilty for getting someone sent to jail. It still seems like just a matter of time before some other hopeless crackhead comes to steal from us again.
The rich and powerful keep squeezing us from the top down, and the poor and desperate are jabbing at us from the bottom up. What is an honest, working class guy to do? How can we eschew despair?
Edit: Forgot another fun detail... During my attempt to confront the thief while he still had all my stuff, a random third guy walked up telling me to let the man go, and that my shite was gone. I was still trying to get emergency dispatch on the phone, and he flashed a gun at me and told me not to call the cops.
To be clear, this guy didn't know and was not working with the thief. I think he just saw me getting robbed and decided it was for the best. My personal favorite quote was when I asked him "what do you want me to do then?", to which he responded "take it up with your ancestors". That shite hurt

He just needs to chalk it all up as an “unplanned donation.”

Another solid made up story

That's pretty bold, I'll say.
Might want to fix that before this crackhead gets out of lockup.

And now that abortion is illegal. In about 17 years you'll have around 36% more of them running the streets.

Yeah, when does NOPD actually respond to a call that doesn’t involve them shaking someone down?

What a fricking idiot. You can't call the police when you see someone that has your shite. You have to be able to absolutely be able to prove its yours.
Don't get out and confront this. Follow the mother fricker and hope he goes in somewhere leaving it outside then go take it back.
And get a fricking dog. Them mother frickers are not coming if you have a dog in your yard.

This soy boy is part of the problem and is too stupid to realize it. Now that he sees the mentality of the majority of the city’s citizens, maybe he will vote in a way to make changes. But probably not.

Not if you stop funding it.

That’s a solemn thought. Both parties unrestrained are quite awful in their own way. In this particular case he needs to vote for the other guy.
