A New Orleans teen who recently moved to Chalmette was booked with attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of stolen property and simple criminal damage over $5,000 after he fled in a stolen car from an officer trying to conduct a traffic stop,

quote:

The 16-year-old, who was wearing an ankle bracelet at the time of the incident for a previous charge out of New Orleans, also was booked for driving without headlamps and on five warrants out of NOPD.

16 years old, with an ankle braclet and multiple warrants. Anyone know if a NOPD ankle bracelet even works in another parish? You would think when he left the parish that would be some sort of violation.

quote:

A passenger in the vehicle, the driver’s 14-year-old brother, also was booked for possession of stolen property.

Nice of the older brother to teach the younger brother the tricks of the trade.

Remember this was Wed night, when these young men did not have school for the day due to the cold.

I mean, WTF do you do with this? Kid's gonna go to juvie and be out in a couple of years. Where are the parents? Or at least a parent, an auntie, grammy, etc?

Yuo. Big part of the problem... and NOPD's inability to do their basic job almost cost an officer's life in another parish.

This board would say a bullet to the head

The state would say release him then lock him again up for life

Reasonable countries would say educate and rehabilitate, which statistically has been proven to work. He’s a kid that fled with stolen property and likely a product of his upbringing.

The failure of New Orleans' gladhand politicians is to acknowledge that the city is broke due to only about 50% of the population paying taxes is the problem. The city, and those in it, can't really do anything about it. There's a culcha of crime, and a shitty tax base to pay employees who would clean it up...

While this kid is a moron...

Do you expect helicopters and a tactical team to take down every individual who breaks parole or probation?

Damn. Just when I got done defending you, you gotta go and say dumb shite. Look at the demographics of countries/cities where rehabilitation works... They don't look like those of New Orleans. You have to address the culcha of violence & crime that is New Orleans before you can even remotely consider rehabilitating anyone.

Otherwise, you're going to end up with a hell of a large bill of individuals who have been 'rehabilitated' on the taxpayer dime, only to have them go out and recidivate when they go back into their neighborhoods. Of course that's the issue with locking them up as well. Stop & Frisk is the only proactive policing that i've seen statistics on that actually works. Community policing is semantics rainbow bullshite, and plays no part in crime. Of course with stop and frisk you gotta worry about the ACLU stepping in for "Muh civil rights"... There's no easy solution... Mine is to move the frick away.

Education and rehabilitation has never worked for an individual who doesn't want to be educated and rehabilitated. This is a fact. It's the reason why rehabilitation programs typically have a statistically insignificant reduction in recidivism.

I won't even address the most glaring issue, which is that he's already committed crimes and is free on an ankle bracelet so that he can continue to take advantage of the education system.

The "reasonable countries" statement is the mantra of the ignorant who believe they can make comparisons between the US and a homogeneous population like Norway.

Well we’ve been given juveniles with non violent crimes jail time and that’s worked out so far.

Yes I know this doesn’t pertain to this exact situation but the problem is bigger than this. And yes, louisiana has a criminal problem but we also have a prisoner problem.

I didn’t ask for anyone to defend me my man and I know this is the unpopular opinion on this board. Anyone arguing with me feel free to suggest another issue because our current policies are working so wonderfully
