Lee was not fighting against the abolition of slavery any more or less than Lincoln was. He faught against a growing and ever more controlling federal government that has continued to grow out of control since. Are you happy with the state of our current federal government?

That statue honors one of the greatest generals and strategists in American Histroy. It in no way honors slavery or anything like that. It is a reminder of the past and of the future. It shows us where we came from and where we are going.

You will not find an educated person today who wishes slavery still existed. And you will not find a historian who believes the south fought solely to keep slaves.

But by all means, don't allow truth, logic, and history to overcome your indoctrinated sense of narrative.

Where do you stop?

Are we only allowed to publicly celebrate leaders who led after the end of slavery? After the civil rights movement? After the end of discriminatory suffrage?

We need a leader in this city and state and country who encourages intelligence and unity. Who encourages us all to look at each other as Americans. To celebrate our past and our history. To learn from and remember our past so that we can build our future.

We need to come together and move forward or we will fall divided. Movements like this serve only to line the pockets of the politicians and further degrade the relations between neighbors in our city.

This is a distraction. A horrible trivial distraction from the real relevant issues.

Imagine if we had this kind of media exposure and coverage and civil outrage and political debate and action over the crime and poverty and lack of education in this city.

This whole process is disgusting, and I don't know how to make others see that.

But my hope is that one day we can grow out if this sophomoric bullshite reactionary entitled social media driven hatred culture that is creeping like a cancer over this country.
