You need to get your head out of the sand. We are living in a time where our thoughts are policed and civic policy is being dictated based on how something or somebody makes people feel. Our nation's AG is strongly suggesting that making Muslim's feel unwanted should be punishable by law.
All you see is a silly statue of some dead white guy; what I see is a group of people throwing a hissy fit over nothing in order to make themselves feel better and politicians bending to their will.
This week it's a statue in New Orleans. Next month who knows, it might be your skateboard or your herbal tea. Soon enough something you hold dear just might offend the wrong group of people...

This guy makes a good point though he doesn't realize it. The entire city reflects the history of the Confederate South. If we're going to start taking down reminders we're going to have to raze the whole thing to dirt.
