I have no idea why people move that close to the tracks without doing a little research (or sleep in your truck around the corner for a night or two to sample the area).

Few years back a family member bought near the tracks, then called me and asked if I thought those tracks were busy. Some google research showed that they were some of the busiest in the country. Ooops!

My first starter home was right next to an active train track. It was so close to the house when a train would pass, the whole house would shake. The first couple weeks in I was panicking thinking I’d never sleep and would have to sell this thing and was kicking myself for not doing research on the train tracks

Fortunately, within probably a month I found I never noticed it anymore. As mentioned, every once in a blue moon someone will hit the horn, and those will get you, damn near every time, but that’s super rare at my place. I took it as an opportunity to get handsy with the wife like folks mentioned

Those were the fun times. Little money, a train 50 yards away, but no kids or responsibilities so lots of nookie

There's a reason those train horns are so loud. They want to make sure anyone near the crossing know about the approaching train. Even with a gate, they are still required to blow the horn just in case the gate malfunctions.

My aunt lived next to one and couldn’t take the noise anymore so she gathered the neighbors for a class action lawsuit. The rail company paid and paid dearly for damages to homes from the rattling and rail car connecting and the state ended up condemning that particular portion of rail/track.

You will get used to it, that's not just spouting off. I lived close enough to the tracks where you could feel it in the floor when the train went through. After a bit it never woke me up.

I live about 100 yards from one. I never hear it, and I only ever noticed it the first couple weeks if that

As a kid I lived one house off of a Main Street along a RR track. I would hear the loud horns and rumble and feel the house shake as the trains plowed through our town. There was a train depot only 200 feet from our front door. I don’t really remember it bothering me much as you do get used to it. Slept through most of the night train traffic.

You think it’s bad now just wait until winter time when all the leaves are all gone and the sounds are louder

Buy an Amazon Echo and use the Sleep Sounds app. Turn it to brown noise. It will work. I used a box fan for 20 years, the Echo is 10x better at canceling noise.

At least you should be able to get drugs from your neighbors pretty easily.

I lived right by a train track in Tuscaloosa, and it didn't take long to pay no mind to it.

I’ve slept with a box fan for 35 years.
Can’t without it.
Kids too.

Unfortunately, it’s an active RR crossing. Last night was woken up at 2, 4 and 6 am. I’m told I’ll get used to it. Aside from that, are there are economical options to reduce the sound any that anyone me here has found helpful?

Was it covered over with leaves or something

Install some Pickleball courts next to your house. It will drown out the other noises.
