Noah’s ark is a parable not a historical event.
More and more it seems like there was actually an environmental catastrophe at the end of the ice age so huge that virtually every culture around the world recorded some aspect of it into oral tradition.

Wouldn’t they all have died in the flood? How do they have stories too?
Even the believers of the unbelievable have some reasoning in them (a want to explain and proof, ie, stories of flood by those across the world (Asia, ME, etc) - ducking and juking the contradictions, in so doing.
Humans are malleable in so many ways.

Not true at all.

That structure has been observed since I was a kid, many years ago. Was suppose to be proven NOT to be the ark. We shall see.

quote:Bruh, the earth was a lot smaller back then with the same amount of water.
There absolutely was no worldwide flood. That is a scientific fact.
Cosmic radiation excites the earth’s core
causing it to expand over the millennia.
That’s what separated Pangea.
Thats why the oceans expand at their seams.
So the whole earth did flood back then. It’s just a lot bigger now.

You seem irrationally angry while using human realism. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The laws of physics do not apply to your peanut mind in the house of God.
Ah yes, the ole prove something that isn’t real… isn’t real. shite in on science though

Storytelling is a way for us to understand our world better. To answer questions such as, “why would a just God allow natural disasters that kill indiscriminately?”

Ok, if the story of the flood isn't real....what lesson exactly does it teach?
I had a rabbi tell me once that it’s not a story about a man and a boat. It’s a story about the glory of God.

?? either you believe it or you don’t! It’s called Faith! You either have it or you don’t. If you’re right in saying that it Is simply not true then Maybe one day you will be able to pat yourself on the back, but if you are wrong…..

The notion that it was done by god to cleanse the earth or that some guy built a big boat and put two of each animal on it is clearly a parable though. It’s also silly to think the entire earth was flooded. That’s not how any of this works. Doesn’t detract from the lesson of the story to acknowledge that it’s not a literal account of events.
Good post. I’m probably a minority and I’m okay with that but I believe that a lot of the Old Testament is parables meant to teach lessons. It was never meant to be taken literally. It doesn’t mean people like Abraham, Moses, and David didn’t exist. They did. I can believe in God and not take literally every Old Testament story.

quote:You state that you either believe or disbelieve, though as an agnostic, I find that is a reasonable stance, as well. If belief is not under one’s active control, why would someone congratulate themselves for lacking faith? Moreover, why conclude with Pascal’s Wager, which falters logically since belief cannot be chosen at will?

No — there is no scientific evidence that the Earth was ever completely flooded due to an ice melting event or any other cause.
Completely flooded? Are you actually this stupid?

maybe not the entire Earth, but an area large enough for the people of the era to honestly believe it was the entire Earth And really, it doesn’t have to be that large of an area to fit that description. it’s not really that hard to fathom that a man built a big arse boat, put his family and some animals. not 2 of every animal on the actual planet, but 2 of the animals that were known to the area (which would have been a pretty small number compared to what we know today) and floated through a flood?
This seems reasonable but isn’t enough for some of the biblical literalists roaming around claiming that anyone who doesn’t think the earth is 6000 years old isn’t a believer.
