Funny. This board constantly scoffs at the innocuous things that offend people, and yet here it is, taking the utmost offense at such an inconsequential event.

Not receiving proper discipline happens all the time, mostly when it comes to the rich and powerfully connected (and yes even being white helps).
I just think it's a silly lack of perspective to complain that a group of cadets potentially got away with something just because they were black!
They are a proud group of black women graduating from a prestigious institution that has not, historically, had all that many black female graduates. I congratulate them for their accomplishment.
Somewhere along the way (and by that I mean constantly) they are taught that they are not special snowflakes. They are all integral parts of a whole body that works together under a very specific set of guidelines formulated to promote camaraderie, and specifically non-exclusivity.
If they feel like they need to express the fact that they are special, or exceptions to the rule...they are a liability. That little display of solidarity (which was undoubtedly political, despite your biased intellectual dishonesty) should be taken as a point of concern in their future ability to lead without having underlying prejudice toward a certain group.
The raised fists was obviously not an extemporaneous gesture (e.g. "everybody do duck face!").
If a group of white male cadets in uniform spontaneously decided to scribble "#AllLivesMatter" on a piece of cardboard and hold it front and center for their group picture, I feel fairly certain that there would have been disciplinary action taken.

Looks like the powers at West Point also agree that it was no big deal.

I agree they are not soldiers yet and far from it.
Huge difference they are still cadets just like someone in rotc in college.
I never saluted those cadets when I was in the army until they got commissioned and were a soldier.
They were cherries when they did field exercises with us and slowed us down during training exercises. Huge difference between soldiers that had combat experience and cherries who knew they would never see a battlefield.
They did this in front of a building that represents the army which is disrespectful.
If some other race did this white guys or white women then it would be all over the news.
It is a double standard.
West Point is suppose to develop great tacticians in the battlefield.
Ok, they all need to be assigned to front line infantry platoons and give the tax payer what they paid for.
West Point should not be pushing out desk jockeys they should be pushing out great platoon leaders.

Y'all left out this part. So they'll get a talking to and probably have some extra duties. Happy?

Foot soldiers from the farm, the trailer park and the hood just can't stand an officer from west point

Maybe not publicly, but I guarantee as they try to climb in rank they will meet resistance with the old guard.

As in violating rules of West Point regarding political statements? No and West Point agrees.
As in showing a lack of awareness of how symbols can be misinterpreted by certain groups? I agree with that statement. That is certainly evidenced right here on the OT.

Idk where this thread has headed past the first page but here's my two cents. This SJW/BLM shite would go away if we stopped giving it a platform. Just stopped covering it, stopped talking about it, and stopped giving a frick about it.

if a white softball player wearing a monkey mask in the dugout during a game is considered racist then so should this picture.

Who considers that racist ? Not me. I seriously doubt whoever that player was meant it in a racial context. what were the consequences for that softball player? If that happened at West Point, I would think consequences would be similar. The player would not be formally punished. But she would get a talking to about how something can be misinterpreted and cause division. That is what happened with the cadets
