Just my thoughts,

Imo this was a political statement. Yes, these young ladies knew what they were doing. Regardless of race, gender, political affiliation, you do not wear a uniform and engage in political activities period.

Even if this weren't political, it's still not a professional photo just based on the pose. Whatever happened to standing at attention or at parade rest.

These future officers not only have 04 (Majors) and higher for professors but also have TAC officers and nco's that kind of bridge the gap between their academic and campus life as well their military training.

I was a medic during the summer of 2014 at West Point. My job as an nco was in charge of my seven medics who were responsible for approximately 160 incoming new cadets or plebes health and well being. I was also responsible for that same amount.

The first three weeks weren't bad since they went to lots of briefings, classes in ethics, etc, so situations like this had to be covered. The first day for the new cadets is the worst since many are scared shitless, and the upper class men act as drill sergeants but it's nowhere near as intense.

Cadets have it easy, the air assault cadre come to West Point during the summer so that course is watered down. Their 300 meter targets are bright orange not green, etc. their dfac is better than any installation, etc. and for these seniors to take this kind of picture was imo was a slap in the face.

The army invests apx 250,000 for a cadet at usma for four years. No way these ladies were going to get punished. This may go on their cadet record but will be swept under the rug.

I had a new cadet panic and came up to me because he never had sweat get in his eyes and didn't know what to do. Let that sink in.
New cadets need to go to benning for basic if they are males

The campus is nice imo and worth a visit

Since people behind them are holding their fists up, and since dozens of them are standing in formation on a football field for all the world to see, it looks like they are in the middle of a chant where they just so happen to put their fists up into the air. We had a similar one when I was in high school where we put our fists up in the air at the end of our alma mater.

Maybe. Because historically it is a symbol of solidarity when folks do it as a group.
