Sorry you married a stupid woman.

frick, if people are willing to pay that, I'm about to start a business selling prom dresses.

Devils advocate: For you there is nothing wrong with that. What about when she marries someone and THEY can't provide quite to that extent (although she has everything she NEEDS?)? I just don't believe that a $100 or $200 dress can't make her happy.
Again, to each his own. We've made it clear we can AFFORD anything that they want. BUT I'm not going to do it because we as parents don't think it's in their best interest. They've never bucked us and believe me, they're great kids!
eta: threeputt, my husband would probably not even wonder if $700 was a lot for a dress or not and wouldn't even know, sort of like you. I remember my mom saying that my dad never asked how much something was (ie prom/homecoming dress) as he knew that she wouldn't spend more than we could afford or was reasonable. Same here in our home ... he leaves those things to me and I just don't see $700 as reasonable.

Jody is just happy that none of this is his problem.

You're a fricking moron. Thanks for sharing your opinion, but financial conflict is a leading cause of divorce in our country.
If you think differently, you're either paying for sex, or you have no idea who your significant other is being railed by.

I hear you and I'm not saying that your kids can't be well adjusted and great kids with a $50 dress. I also understand if a family can't afford to spend that on a dress.
I just assumed the OP can afford it and Just pointed out that 700 bucks is not all that expensive for a dress and I don't see the big deal in buying his daughter dresses like that for special occasions throughout the year

That is way too much money for a dress, but it's a free pass for a new gun. Dare the wife to say shite.
This is by far the most embarrassing post in this thread.

Wife is clearly testing you OP, and you failed. Get ready for the cuckold.

Just imagine how much her wedding dress is gonna cost you, if her prom dress is $700......

Most people that can really afford to buy a $700 dress for a high school kid are to smart to do so.

Bingo fin. Can I swing it, of course, should I, frick no.
Posted on 8/16/15 at 2:45 pm to cubsfan5150
what a waste. most kids out of high school or college could better use the money blown by their parents on much more frugal things like rent and groceries.

I think you guys are really over reacting. The dude is buying a freaking dress for the girl he is not adding on a wing to his house for his daughter.

It is creating a higher maintenance woman

I'm hoping that someone will want to borrow my daughter's for future dances. We only paid $100 and she LOVES it but I'm happy to share ... why buy if someone likes it as much as she does and would like to borrow it? She was even open to borrowing but after 2 boys, I wanted the experience of taking her shopping. It was super quick and easy!
Posted on 8/16/15 at 2:57 pm to cubsfan5150
…and it will just end up with alcohol and a big load on it. Should have rented a dress.
Posted on 8/16/15 at 3:16 pm to yellowfin
And if you explain that to your daughter, she will understand, too.

IT didn't, it will have a salty malt on it before the night is over and that is why they are hard to resale.
