It was -20 to -30 where I was in Canada

I've been in Fairbanks and Calgary during the winter but oddly enough the coldest weather I've ever experienced was in Omaha. It was like minus 30 for a few days. They even cancelled school.

I too have lives in both places and I would take the cold winter any day. That may have to do with more with me being born and raised in the north and having spent the first 24 years of my life there. I lived in Iowa though...slightly less of a winter than Minnesota and slightly less of a summer than Louisiana. Any given day in the summer there, its probably only 5-10 degrees cooler and has 5-10 percent less humidity than Louisiana. For me once it gets over 80 degrees and enough humidity where you can feel it...thats when I start getting miserable. I think I liked it better there because there truly are 4 distinguishable seasons. That and the thunder storms there are an incredible sight to see. We don't get shite for thunderstorms in southern Louisiana.

I was working in Cleveland for a few months during winter a few years ago. It was very fricking cold and I'm sure it still doesn't compare to a Minnesota winter.
I've acclimated to southern heat and humidity being as I was born and raised here and it sucks, for sure, but the Midwestern winter cold is just something I don't think I could ever get used to. Stepping outside in single digits with a 20 mph wind physically hurts. So I'm gonna have to have a heater if I am forced to do a winter in Minnesota.

Lots of folks living near Fairbanks have dry cabins. They're popular with some college students.
