Good question, and with hindsight, I wish I had. I didn't think about it until it was too late. My first instinct wasn't to be sympathetic, because he was being kind of a dick. He clearly chose to ignore the sign on the door, and he escalated quickly. Still....

This, plus: People fumbling with cash slows down the checkout lines. And it also makes places ripe for a robbery given the amount of shoppers these days.

It’s STUPID.
Where did the groceries come from? Where did the packaging come from? Where are all the people in the store coming from and who is attesting to their cleanliness and health?
Grocery Stores are about the filthiest places around. Cash is the least likely thing in that store for anyone to get sick from and if they are truly worried there are 50 ways to figure out preventative measures. Overreaction.

It might have something to do with banking. Each day most businesses have to have enough small bills and change on hand in the morning, and then deposit the cash at their bank at the end of the day. Some banks have closed locations, and most have closed their lobby.
It might have become too much trouble to handle cash for a small percentage of sales. Large businesses and chains often have safes and armored cars to deliver change and pick up cash. Smaller business do it themselves.

This is weird.
I was just at a Rouses and after picking up 25 or so things and getting to the front to check out in the long lines, they announced their credit card system crashed. Cash or check only.
I have a bunch of cash at home, but had very little with me.

I'm a fellow garden district guy. How is it at breaux mart? Last time I went there on Saturday they were cleaned out but I still got some milk, chicken wings and such.
