Tulane has the money to build another parking garage. Their decision not to is perplexing.

They just took away a parking lot.

Tulane probably doesn't want their campus looking like a Houston expressway with parking garages everywhere.

Not unusual for urban campus.

Correct. Most urban campuses have strict parking rules for students or make it so cost prohibitive to obtain a parking permit.

OP sucks that he wouldn’t drive 4 hours to Tulane to pick up his kid though.

Yes that big bubble tent looks so much better than a parking lot.

There are lots of ways to build a decent looking parking garage that also incorporates other uses. Look at Loyola’s Sports Complex.

That block with the day care and physical plant area at the corner of Broadway and Willow could be transformed with a parking garage and other buildings.

Besides, parking structures are revenue positive.

My daughter has been looking at schools and just came across this nugget that at Tulane freshmen, sophomore and juniors have to live on campus but not allowed to have cars? She immediately eliminated them.
If she couldn't even properly understand the policy, she wasn't smart enough to get in in the first place.

You’re right. She should probably just stay there over Thanksgiving. No real need or want to spend that with family
You're right. A vehicle kept on or around campus for an entire semester is the ONLY means of Thanksgiving transportation.

You really don’t want your kid to have a car in New Orleans. Trust me on this.

Yes I agree, but they sure depend on Loyola’s garage. They park over 200 cars a day, plus sell spots for every sporting event.

Trust me, that availability wont last forever.

This is a new policy started this school year. My daughter has friends that are living just off campus & parks her car in front of their house. There is a dent in the back of her car that was not there when she left home. She claims someone hit her & left. The damage is minimal & I won’t fix it until she gets ready to buy a new vehicle. There has been no other issues.

I think they lost most of their parking to the football renovations with the stadium and practice field. No where to really park except a few places off Willow and in the front of campus. Most students seem to street park on St Charles or a side street.

Why would anyone go to Tulane when they can go to any SEC school?

Can attest to making it just fine at Tulane without a car first 2 years many years ago. Bicycle and streetcar got me where I needed to go. To get home Southern Airlines DC3 to Monroe was $29 with a student discount and A track to Jackson was $9n plus 3 Miller Life's in the dining car.Girlfriend picked me up both places. . Married her after sophomore year for her Cutlass Supreme . 52 years later she is still driving me around.

They can’t buy a parking pass their Freshman year, but they can every year after that. It’s not that big of a deal to them to not have a car for one year. They either Uber or take the streetcar. Also Tulane doesn’t have the type of student population that goes home on the weekends. Most of them only go home for major breaks or holidays.
