Louisiana and West Mississippi. Y'all are the plague.

All these answers are nowhere remotely to being close. Louisiana and Mississippi people have been going to Destin for years and it was always a pleasurable experience. I made a thread recently about how crab island isn’t as nice as it used to be.

I think the pontoon rental places are renting to way younger people than in the past.

It’s the advent and rise of social media that has led to these areas being a shell of what they used to be. In particular, the Instagram effect. Crab island before 2012 or so was a very fun and family friendly place. That’s not been the case in the recent years.

30A's days are numbered if the trash keeps wafting eastward. In 20 years there will be an Alvin's Island and Vape shop where the Pearl is in Rosemary.

I'll note that 30A is much better during off-peak times or even non-Summer/Spring Break peak times (Thanksgiving, Christmas, NYE).

It's a lot more wholesome and you have fewer of both the trashy component and the instagram striver component. A lot more owners and long time visitors who still love the area but don't want to fight the hordes for it.

Yeah, who exactly do they think used to go to Destin?

The nice parts of 30A are out of reach for many Destin visitors and that'll be the case for a while

But it'll become trashy in a different way, more south/central Florida (transplants) and Mid-Atlantic-ish visitors will make it a shell of what it was. The Pearl already suffers from it.

The people we met were from Oklahoma and northern La. Food was good. Went to Back Porch and ate at La Lagniappe.

We got home yesterday, and enjoyed our stay. The beach was nice Friday, packed Saturday and Sunday, thinned out Monday, and was very nice Tuesday and Wednesday. We ate at Boshamp's one night and enjoyed the food and the band. 2020 makes 55 years from the fist time I went to Destin in July 1965. The place has changed a lot, but I still enjoy going there.

My family has been moving back and forth across the panhandle over the same period trying to beat the crowds. After 30+ years we returned to Pensacola after making it all the way to Rosemary Beach over that period. My dad was pissed that Mesquite Charlie’s had closed

That can be said for the entire Gulf Coast.

30A became unbearable by around 2010. We used to go every summer from around 96 to around 2010, and an occasional fall/winter trip. We were blessed to have a family member that owned a house in Blue Mt. The crowds there just became unbearable in the summer, in both numbers and annoyance. We went back a few summers ago with some friends, and it had just gotten worse somehow.

Family member sold his Blue Mt beach house and bought one in Ft Morgan, and it's a much more pleasurable trip. Water isn't as nice, and the dining options suck out there, but we go to the beach to go to the beach, not be seen in our fancy new car and designer clothes to post on Instagram.

FL panhandle food has always sucked

Truer words, never spoken. Got to go to Mobile, then head west to find good food. Panhandle is just a bunch of glorified bar food places.

Our last trip to Gulf Shores trip was back at the beginning of August. There were 2 older/nasty women sitting in chairs down from us. The younger woman had a son who was probably 4 y/o.(who they both constantly cussed at) These two dumb bitches got so drunk they could barely walk and passed out on the beach with her son just sitting there playing in the sand with a life jacket on.

I’m a fricking drunk but was appalled at their behavior.

Having said that, they can afford to rent condos for $6,000/week but they are low class.

Destin isn't trashy! It's wonderful. PLEASE keep encouraging everyone to go there...

I hope no one ever finds my spot(s) in FL/invisible font.
