It has one of the stronger genetic connections of a mental disorder. It is also not curable/reversible. Maybe the word you’re looking for is manageable.

I sold a drug that would turn a Vietnam vet into a wet nurse in a few days

People mentally ill enough to murder should be put down the same way we put down rabid dogs.

If your loved one gets shot by a mugger or stabbed by a crazy homeless man, it doesn't matter, dead is dead, I don't care, get this garbage off the planet.

So basically the Reiner estate is going to sue the psychiatrist and Nick is going to get off with an insanity defense. Zero accountability for his drug abuse or his parents enabling his drug abuse.

Sounds like typical Hollywood bullshite.

How do you know until they do it, though?

We desperately need asylums. And a frank understanding of personal autonomy in light of severe mental/psychological disturbances.

why, if he was having that hard of a time with illness, meds and drugs, why he wasn't inpatient until he was stabilized.

Bill of rights.

His parents already paid their price.

Nick's addiction occurred at least as young as 14 years old as his first rehab stint was basically a 15th birthday present. It could have begun even younger.

I'd say charge his psychiatrist... but I don't actually know what leeway they would have to forcibly inpatient treat a person.

Laws need changing.

Are meant for those with reasoning capabilities... unmedicated or mismedicated severely mentally ill people aren't capable of handling their rights in the moment of their peak illness.

At what point do you just let him live in the basement and do all the heroin he wants?

One of the main issues with drug use is the crime involved with acquiring the drugs.

They are pretty harmless while doing the drugs.

He will either just be a zoned out druggie or die of OD.

And they would still be alive.

I pray I never am faced with that question. There simply are no right answers.

I hear you. Talk to your legislators about passing a law with stringent standards and avenues of appeal that can meet the burden of strict scrutiny upon review.

If his parents were paying $70,000 a month for a mental institute they should have been the ones in the institute.

Care... especially mental health and addiction care is expensive.

Inaccessible to most or many that need it.

A travesty.

I really hate this happened and don't see why he would only go after his parents.

He'd just fought with them...

Easy targets...

Repressed (no longer) childhood rage...

Even the better adjusted among us realize our parent's mistakes in rearing us. The maladjusted even moreso.
