Nice neighbor

I recently moved to a new neighborhood. Today I came home from work and found that one of my neighbors cleaned the leaves off the street in front of my house and one strip of grass closest to the street. I’m very thankful but a little confused.
TLDR: I want to pay him back for the nice gesture, and with CNY coming up, wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
A few points of reference: My neighbor is a Chinese cancer research doctor and speaks very little English. We bond in broken English/Chinese while working in our yards. I live in a nice neighborhood, have no trees on my property, and I take great care of my yard. However, my neighborhood is full of trees and recent weather has the whole neighborhood covered in leaves. I can only believe he did this with the best of intentions and I want to pay him back. Anyone have any experience with this?

I clean up my neighbors’ yards all the time - or at a minimum what you just described. It’s no biggie - some people actually enjoy working outside, including myself. I find yard work to be be therapeutic. Just a simple thank you would be sufficient in my opinion.
