The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary investigation into 2014-16 Ford Fusion sedans after three reports of steering wheel bolts coming loose, which has led to one incident in the state of Georgia in which the steering wheel detached from the column while the vehicle was in motion.
Pretty sure this is a feature in NASCAR.
I'd have a heart attack if it happened while driving.

I had an 86 Bronco with a stick shift that you could pull right out of the floor if you tried to put it in 2nd too aggressively.
Made for an incredibly effective theft deterrent though.

A quirk to Fords of the 1980s and 1990s....you can remove the key after turning the car on.

Just having a stick shift today probably makes for the ultimate theft deterrent.

My first vehicle was built in the 1970s. It had a separate key set for the ignition than for the door. And a 3rd key for the after-market lockable gas cap. It also had both a clutch and a floor-mounted brighter switch....so you couldn't have your foot on the clutch and turn the brighters on or off at the same time.
Also had a 1998-ish Camry with separate door and ignition keys, but it was because Toyota's warranty department didn't feel it necessary to match the remote door keys to the new ignition key after the ignition had to be replaced. Cheap bastards.

Is that NHRA? I think he accidentally pulled the pin when he was reaching for something else.

Didn't see him actually touch or pull the pin (which is on the drivers left at the connection) but it happened right around the time he pulled the chute (between his legs).

If you're driving a Ford Fusion, the steering wheel coming off and causing your fiery violent death should be a sweet release.

Actually the Fusion is one of their better products IMO.
