If you’ve ever chaperoned a trip like that you know some of the parent chaperones need as much or more supervision than the kids.

Hence why I said I wouldn't trust random adults I don't know to be responsible for my kids on a trip like this. Too much at stake for me. Now, if they weren't even there and were supposed to be, that's a whole other issue.

those trips are pretty risky, exposure wise, we did a lot of stupid stuff as kids but we were on our own, and knew there were consequences for bad decisions, doesn’t mean we didn’t make some bad decisions but we were smart enough, strong enough to figure a way out, don’t think most kids coming out of hs these days are ready

These aren’t kids.. most are 18-19 years old..

The young man made a terrible testosterone filled mistake

We did a senior cruise my senior year. Flew to Puerto Rico and caught the ship to like 6 islands. Whole class went and several teachers to chaperone. No parents. We were allowed to drink and it was a blast, but this was the generation of kids who grew up going to TJ's, Bruno's etc in the mid 90's.

I truly believe kids these days should be given more freedom earlier.

some parents go down there but are not official chaperones. they generally stay at a different hotel/resort and are there in case their kid needs them. They are not responsible for any of the kids down there.

Imagine being one of the kids who was daring him to jump in, feel terrible for anyone involved, heart breaking

Alcohol was involved

Senior trips to the beach where the chaperone parents get wasted with the 17 and 18 year old kids are so trashy.

yeah i've always assumed the chaperones were the same parents who were letting 16 year olds get hammered at their homes and somehow got involved in teenage drama

Do the people saying they would never allow their kids to go to something like this realize these kids are going to be in college (or military) in about two months living life as adults?

problem with that is more than likely they haven’t been prepared for it, do they still lockdown recruits the night before they’re to report?

I just saw the video - he JUMPED.

IF, there was no Instagram,
IF, there were no phone cameras,
This would have never happened.

The kids of today's social media era are just totally screwed. They all want to go viral.
How fricking sad is that.

The next era of kids getting totally screwed is right around the corner. Their screwing will be attributed to something wayyy bigger than "look at me" social media. Say hello
to AI.

On the video I saw, he did not push it away. I am not even sure he saw it. It was a decent ways away from him, the tide was moving and it was dark. But he in no way pushed it away in the video I saw.
