Are you unfamiliar with how society works these days?

No life vests? Geez what a terrible story. So sad.

It was probably a 40’ catamaran. No one is wearing life vests on that.

I’ve never been on one but every boat I’ve seen like that no one is wearing them.

I think theyll go through safety protocols and such when you’re leaving the harbor and that’s it.

My understanding is they were trying to throat flotation devices to him and not just standing there filming.

Yes, so said. Hearing one of the many witnesses and other kids standing there was able to video it. There really wasn’t anything he could do other than jump in himself, which wouldn’t have been safe. Someone threw a raft out for him to catch. There was bad storm coming in so he drifted very quickly. Someone said the coast guard wouldn’t let them leave for hours while they searched then finally let them go bc they couldn’t find him.

I have several friends whose kids were on the boat. I can't imagine how traumatizing it was for them. It's incredibly sad.

Was the boat moving? Could the boat have turned around to get to him? Obviously, that couldn't or didn't happen, but I am trying to wrap my head around this. This is an awful story.

The video isn’t people standing around watching and videoing. It’s tons of kids screaming. We need to say prayers for this family.

How big of a boat was it? I ask because I don't know how easily it would have been to turn around and attempt a rescue other than throwing a raft overboard into a swift current.

If it was a sailboat in heavy wind, it might take awhile to turn around and get back to a precise spot.

yeah the bahamas trip is the big senior trip everyone goes on these days usually with a chaperone that attends with them
the drinking age is 18 in the bahamas so that is the lure to the high school crowd
mine didn't go because he was still 17 at the time, let's just say I was glad he skipped that trip

Still, with alcohol and boating you would think the booze cruise people would make them wear them to avoid situations like this
no you wouldn’t

I know a number of the kids on the boat and a number of the parents that were waiting at the dock for them to come back in, as well as parents here in BR waiting to hear from their kids saying they are ok. It will take a while for all families involved to move on from this.

If someone is screaming for help, I get it at least they have support someone fell over to help rescuers.

I've seen the video and he just kinda starts swimming away from the boat and then you can't see him anymore as it's too dark.

And supposedly this “booze cruise” is the cruise the kids all look forward to bc they can drink.

Sounds like they were either videoing or screaming

Is there a reason they couldn’t turn around and pick him up? Or launch a skiff?
