Not quite. I too was taught that it was a slang term for poor whites derived from Alabama, Georgia and Carolina people “cracking” the whip to control wagon draught teams and livestock on the way to and into Florida in the late 19th century. However, it’s really older than that and was a Scots Irish term generally in use from the time the colonies came into being. It was in use in the South (lots of Scottish/Irish) to describe a bloviator or someone who prattled on about things. One thing it was not was a reference to white men cracking the whip on slaves which is what some black activists in the 20th century wanted it to mean. There was a historical Florida Cracker Trail and not long ago there was a proposal to give that name to a north Florida public school which raised a hue and cry that it was racist. Oh well, I guess it’ll be relegated to the word dustbin with “plantation”.

This is an interesting one. He called some white police officers crackers, but the video was recorded and released by someone that is involved in Black Lives Matter.

But I have to be honest, I still like the brother just because of an interview I saw him in where the interviewer was trying to grill him because he said he was going to use stop and frisk, which Deblasio got rid of.
He was honest, he something like "we will use it as responsible as possible, but mistakes do happen". The interviewer kept asking questions an ole boy said "I got to bounce", took off his mic and rolled out. So at least he isn't a pussy and that's all you can ask for.
