Seems like adding a 2nd sensor is the common sense fix here. How much could that sensor possibly cost? Surely a lot less than the lawsuits, brand damage, and loss of revenue.

This is an easy fix. We just make it so if a customer is killed because of a negligent engineering type of problem then the CEO of that company is killed as a punishment to the company. CEOs will quickly stop cutting corners to save a buck.

Thank God there are regulators in this case.
Can’t give the FAA too much credit though. They rubber stamped it the first time through.

But they have no such issues with great planes the like the 787 dreamliner that Boeing has made a killing selling all over the world.
Surely you are just joking. Every plane has had issue and the "new" 787 is no exception. It too was grounded due to in battery fires.
The engineering and technology in modern planes is staggering and to think any are built with no issues is a pipe dream.

Not to get all political talk on here, but when people are constantly saying we "need to reduce government regulation", I think of situations like this.
I hear ya and don’t disagree. My only concern is looking at those government leaders we have. This isn’t a jab at Trump or Republicans/Democrats. I just don’t have a huge amount of trust.

In theory, these regulatory agencies should not be affected by politics.
In reality, I know it is. I don't know how to get around that.

It's now obvious that Boeing should have developed a clean sheet airplane a decade ago. It will be interesting to see how they will navigate this over the next few years.

Shitty millennial engineers.
Also I wonder how many Chinese engineers are working for Boeing and actively sabotaging them?

My uncle who is an electrical engineer, constantly complains that the millennial engineers can't build shite and have no idea how to work in the field.
Sure, they can design great stuff on the computer. But when it comes to something that actually works in the field, they suck.

The plane already has 2 sensors, one on each wing but only uses data from one wing to calculate nose angle. It changes the active sensor after each flight. (One flight uses left sensor, next flight uses right, etc). The flight data recorder showed data from both sensors so I know they have two already.
Why in the frick would they not use both sensors that are there and average the difference so long as they are within reasonable margins?
Seems like a very easy fix and one that should have been in place from the beginning.
This would be like a car telling you your tire pressure but it only tells you what one tire is reading and it changes the tire it's reading from each time you start up the car.
fricking asinine.
