New phrases/sayings that grind your gears.
Posted by Tigerlaff

"Tell me that you ________ without telling me you _________."
Am I the only one that finds this stupid meme retort to be retarded? Tell me you don't like cilatro without telling me you don't like cilantro. Tell me you huff paint without telling me you huff paint. This cancer is everywhere online and has become some sort of default clever "gotcha" response to damned near anything.
"Right, wrong, or indifferent."
This one is taking over Baton Rouge sports radio and podcasting. I blame Jacob Hester, as he was an early adopter and remains one of the worst offenders. "Indifferent" is a human mood or feeling of being positionless or neutral, not a definitive statement of quality pertaining to the subject of conversation like "right" or "wrong." Example of current use: "The transfer portal is here, right, wrong, or indifferent." The transfer portal isn't "indifferent" to anything. The observer is.
Phrases that would make sense:
"The transfer portal is here, right, wrong, or inconsequential."
"The transfer portal is here, right, wrong, or indeterminable."
"The transfer portal is here, right, wrong, or in-between."
Alternatively, one could say "The transfer portal is here, whether you believe it is right, wrong, or you are indifferent."
TL;DR: get off my lawn.
ETA: adding "stay safe!" I don't need to be told to stay safe unless I'm deep sea diving, traveling into a conflict zone, spending the day in the French Quarter, etc.

I don't like when folks use the phrase "each and every" to encompass a group.
"Each" means "every," and "every" assumes "each." You don't need to say both. It doesn't give gravity to your statement; it is redundant and makes you sound stupid.

"narrative"
"self-awareness"
"couldn't be farther from the truth" (Something could almost always be further from the truth when someone says that.)
"couldn't be more different" (Usually used when two or more things are quite similar.)
