My grandpa is pissed about this. Not because of any kind of racism, it's just that he was born in the 1940 and has lived in New Orleans his whole life.

He knows the city like the back of his hand, and now they're changing all of these street names that have been around forever and he's gonna have to re-learn all of this crap.

I just hope this puts a dent in the street gang finances when they have to reprint all their letterhead.

This seems like the exact type of thing Democrats would see as an great enough accomplishment for re-election.

I doubt more than 10 people know who any of those historical people are or why they would be considered racist.

Or maybe I'm just ignorant.

Nah, as noted people think Patton is named for General Patton. It wasn't.

Leonidas was removed from renaming because they aren't even sure for who it is named after.

Are they going to change Tulane University to "Tootie" University too?

Funny how Tulane University changed the names of its buildings from Segregation era figures (who were otherwise significant and positive leaders like F Edward Hebert) while the university itself is named after the city's largest financial supporter of the Confederacy.

Go figure.

Enough tickling balls. Just rename the city after Kunta Kinte and get it over with.

FWIW, the actual proposal has multiple names for replacement. Including James Neugass (Isidore James Newman Neugass).

Actually, after a 10 minute internet search, a citizen found a 1833 map with Leonidas on it proving it wasn’t named for the Confederacy. Fascinating that all the professors, educators, and students working on the “research” couldn’t sniff out a fact like that.
