Do you want to make lots of money in a cookie cutter soulless generic concrete crap factory of an 80s money keep up with the Joneses stereotype city like Houston or do you want to enjoy your life?

I take offense to the keeping up with joneses part too. No one swings dick like a middle class New Orleans family that spends half a mil on their daughters deb ball.

yeah, to say keeping up with the joneses isn't a huge part of Nola culture is laughable

I'm sure you've known tons of people and tourist in Nola who have been killed and raped.

That's like saying prison or the morgue.

Great choices.
Good luck pal.

If you plan to raise a family stay in the Houston area, Katy or the Woodlands are like Pleasantville. I came to Houston in 2008 for a better job, and quickly realized how much more career opportunities are available in the Houston area. I love to go back and visit Nola, but would never move back.

That's not necessarily a good thing, most of the time it isn't.

It's kind of true. I saw the thread yesterday about the burglary of a jewelry store in the mall in The Woodlands and kind of freaked out about it. Heard some schools were on lock down and my son was at daycare. I was glued to the news to see what was going on. It was a big deal. I had that "this shouldn't be happening in my town" type of reaction.

If we lived in NOLA, I'd probably have never even heard about it, or likely blown it off due to stuff like that being semi-common place.

I would definitely love to move back to LA and NOLA would be at the top of the list (wife is from there and my family is pretty close). But it would take a lot of money so that I could live in certain areas that wouldn't be cheap and my kids would need to go to expensive schools.
