You can't really throw in the great food scene in a debate against New Orleans.
But overall I agree with you

you can eat just as well in Houston as you can in NOLA. New Orleans has a much better batting average but Houston has an awesome and very diverse food scene.

I love football so going home is an obvious plus and she loves scenic walks. Plenty of that in New Orleans. She is from katy, TX. Looks fantastic in a bikini. No pics

Hard to say bro. Different strokes you know. I know more people that move to Houston when they are young but as they get older 90% of them always move back home. The ones that stay are constantly posting and saying how homesick they are and seem to be somewhat miserable.

I don't really see the point in that, being that you are younger. I still rather live uptown if i was doing New Orleans.

Killer food scene in Mandeville. Depends on your need of night life? Mandeville has some very nice bars and is a great spot for a family. Houston and Mandeville still outweigh New Orleans.

Houston.

More sluts, more opportunity, and more culture.

If it's just you and your GF, that's a terrible idea.

I've always recommended any young person or couple without kids and money isn't a issue to live in the FQ for at least 6 months. it was the best descion I ever made and will never regret it. I'm not saying to move to the quarter, but don't rule it out. Also. Warehouse Dist, and Uptown should be your fist and second choices.

That would be the worst outcome

ETA: mandeville is for families with kids in school that don't do private school

Houston. It's close enough that you can come back for anything important

Early 80's I moved to Houston on westhimer around galleria for 3 years. Some off time it was cheap to fly Southwest out of hobby or drive to nola.

Are career opportunities equal

What is the next step in career and where is that? Does either location help or hurt.

It would be easier for me to get a job in Houston then New Orleans.

As soon as gf doesn't like it she will make you miserable honestly.

I just had the same choice and chose to work in Houston.

My reasoning is:
Houston's COL is not much more
The job in Houston offered me 20% more
No state taxes
Don't have to pay for private school.

Also I am extremely tired of not seeing an ROI on my tax dollars in BR. NOLA is about the same.

Property taxes vs no state taxes kind of washes that advantage out. But not having to pay 4-5k a year for elementary and middle school and 10+k for high school was a huge factor.

Left home for DFW 10 years ago, currently about to fly back home to Dallas after being in NOLA for about 14 days. Miss family, don't miss anything else. Houston has way more to offer short and long term. My flight home is literally 1hr 20 min. Even shorter for someone in Houston. Take a redline if you feel homesick. Take the money and better financial perspective in Houston.

I would be working at Tulane. It's a very substantial offer. 20K more than the Houston offer but my father says it equals out because of the income tax and various other stuff like that in Louisiana. GF would work in a hospital around the area

I would live in South Louisiana if I could pull it. That said never lived there so can't tell you with authority if it is good or bad. How locked in to choice are you? 5 years from now can you change? If so New Orleans sounds more of an adventure

Also do you think gf is marriage material? Getting her away from home field will really expose if you can get in the trench with her

We live together now so I have really learned more about her and she is wife material. I took her to New Orleans once and she loved it. Big difference, however, between visiting and living there. That's what I wanted her to understand

Uptown is your answer. Your kids will automatically get into Lusher.
