I just got money I was originally scheduled to get and I was happy the city finally did something for us.

Unemployment office should be calling then to get reimbursed for any benefits paid while they were on furlough.

Handout. That is the word you're looking for

I mean we did work thru the pandemic and not ask for a single thing. We worked with so many positive patients, hundreds of us got sick, we had expired equipment, not enough equipment. And we just kept showing up, because we had to.

That's your job dude.

Call it a bonus or whatever makes you happy.

I'll call it a handout because that's exactly what it is

quote:

I was just sharing some good news for your public safety workers who normally are getting shite on.

And bad news for taxpayers, many of which were in the same exact situation as you yet will never recover their lost wages.

"I was originally supposed to get paid $50k per year, but I stopped showing up and got fired.

I didn't get paid for what I was originally scheduled to get"

Same exact logic, do you realize how retarded that is?

Well, at best you're a hypocrite that only likes handouts when they benefit you

Literally just happened to untold millions of people for a lot longer than 3 days who aren't getting a dime from their city government...

GTFOH with this nonsense.

Are y’all normally this mad at people making 10-13$ an hour? Don’t answer that.

Personally I don’t care that much about firefighters/policeman making an extra paycheck. However you gotta understand that coming on here and bragging about getting paid for a relatively small number of days for work that you didn’t work, from tax dollars paid by people who own small businesses , restaurant workers or shop workers who were mandated by the government to reduce hours/close for much longer periods of time didn’t get near the restitution that you received might be upset

Typically the best thing to do in these kind of situations is to be thankful for the check and don’t brag to others

shite, my wife is a nurse, and they can get put on standby at anytime. That means she doesn't go into the hospital, and isn't paid anything for that time.

We don't get that paid back, she picks up an extra shift the next week to make up for it. OP can kick rocks.

But you didn't work the hours and now have money for them. Do you at least understand that? And you aren't owed shite because you're Fire or EMS. Plenty of people in this city had their income taken away and have no means of ever getting it back.

You're EXACTLY why people hate civil service employees.

Is there anyone that wouldn't sign up for a 10% "reduction in pay" for 4 months only to get that 10% back in a lump sum plus 72 additional hours of time off?

We didn’t file a claim, the city decided to give us our money.

It was your choice to not file for unemployment for those 3 days (you would have been entitled to a portion of it). My issue is for those city employees that collected unemployment and will still get this money. If they are going to pay employees for this time, IMO, they should make the employee prove they did not receive unemployment income during the same time frame.

But, the point for most of your responses; you are not entitled to this money. You admittedly did not work. It sucks that you didn't have an opportunity to work your shifts and missed out on this income; but that was one of the major reasons for them changing the unemployment rules during COVID. You could have applied and received something; lucky for you the local governments are getting bailed out with federal funds to pay for this lost time. The issue with this is any non-government employee's only recourse was the state unemployment, federal unemployment, and stimulus checks; which were all available to you.

Sorry I’m not. Those were scheduled days, I was sent home and not paid. I didn’t take off, or call in sick, or get suspended, which would make sense not having a let to stand on.

Jesus you aren’t very bright

Did you just wake up from a coma? The entire world shut down for at least 2 weeks. Some sectors for months.

You think you are going to get any sympathy here for not being able to work 72 hours? Not to mention most people never got paid for time they couldn’t work, unlike gubment workers like you.

You should thank us for paying you not to work.

You do understand that we gave you OUR money for time you didn’t work right? The money is taxes that WE paid.

Show some respect

Oh don’t crawfish now

You came in here all hot in bothered talking about YOUR money that was owed to you then we come to find out your didn’t even work, you were sent home.

If someone announced they were giving first responders a bonus for working hard and showing up I think you would be encountering less resistance.

The problem here is you acting like this money is owed to you.

Love her or hate her, but the Mayor made the right decision here.

What reality are you living in? Nola, and the furloughed workers, have been fricked over at every juncture specifically BY Latoya.

She put all of these workers and small businesses at extreme detriment because her fragile ego got hurt and she “would not be bullied.”

Get the frick out of here with “she made the right decision” bullshite.

If I run over you with my car when I had every opportunity to avoid hitting you, but I donate $50 to your funeral, have I “made the right choice?”
