If you think bar owners in NOLA will suffer from this.

no, I don't think they will suffer

but they should have the right to allow a legal activity within their bar

I seriously hope the government strips away something you enjoy because someone else thought it was bad

When it comes to innocent people dying, I'll celebrate laws against that. Sure.

Have you heard about the latest measles outbreak????

Look I'm all for vaccinations of legit sicknesses, I have nothing against modern medicine. But the day the government starts forcing vaccinations or micro chipping babies when they're born (like they do to dogs now) we will officially be headed down a dark road.

Legit reason and fair tradeoff, IMO.

then make that trade off by selecting bars that offer it

Now we can still enjoy our favorite bars without smelling like smoke,

oh so it's not really a trade off

no he's not. I know a lot of the people that were at these meetings and were fighting for it. Telling them that they were only supporting the ordinance because of the "annoyance" of smoke would be incredibly insulting.

Wink, lets suppose I opened a "Smokers Only" bar??? How frickn fast would the ACLU be all over my arse for excluding non-smokers?

I don't agree much with Salmon, but he's on point.

Yes. Also letting a patron up from the bar is like letting a gambler away from a table. They might not come back.

They cant set up a bar in the outdoor courtyards many of them have?

I don't understand where the bar makes money from smoking. Is there a study that smoking = more drinking? Do most smokers buy their cigarettes at the bar or bring a pack from home? Does all this offset the costs of electrical equipment that is under more strain from all the smoke and tar?

So you would support a law that requires interior Ozone levels to be at the same level as exterior?

Ozone is unhealthy and could be lowerex with proper ventilation.

Same here. But some folks can't see beyond their own simple desires and the use of govt. to enforce them.

Cigar and hookah bars are still legal.

You mean like the rest of the country. I wouldn't have a huge issue with it. I usually finish my drink before leaving the bar

That's the thing, New Orleans isn't like the rest of the country and that's what makes it special.

If you had a smokers only bar would that be different from those that are excluded in this law

While smoking would be allowed at cigar bars, hookah bars,

u incapable of making an adult choice on whether or not to enter a bar that allows smoking?

It should be on smokers to not do it. It's rude to do it in a public place

I'm not sure. But, apparently there has to be a link because bars are not quick to ban it.

But non-smokers are given the choice to live with it or stay home. Now that the shoe is on the other foot are smokers claiming its not fair?

what?

the shoe is only on the other foot due to government threat, which has nothing to do with the competition of ideas in the market

and smokers DON'T have a choice in the current legal scheme. what bars can they choose to smoke in? none. did non-smokers have non-smoking options in the old system? yes. so it's not the same scenario
