They’re gonna have the AC on 60 in July...upgrades are really nice but I didn’t understand this aspect

It was a absolute great experience. No traffic. No lines. No baggage issues. The new airport is amazing and truly a destination airport.

I have been there several times since opening. My experience ranges from almost the exact scenario that you described to an absolute nightmare. The airport is great during non- peak hours, however when pressure is applied it is completely dysfunctional. Try it during a morning rush or a Sunday evening return. It took me almost an hour to get from the parking garage back to the interstate. I have never checked a bag so I can’t speak to that.

my flight landed at 130AM last night; last flight of the evening. baggage didn't start til 230AM.

I carried a backpack as my luggage, so I walked off the plane straight to my vehicle.

Now, do you think they need a 100 million dollar interstate exit, or are the existing roads sufficient?

Neither.
They need to time lights to optimize the flow. Flow off interstate is bottlnecked by the light at Vets and there’s usually very few cars on vets since there is nothing west of that. Optimize that.

So if you have a 925 am flight on Southwest, is two hours enough to allow? Will have to check baggage.

Also best place to park? Thanks.

Maybe.

Best place to park is short term parking. However, I don't think you are looking for the best place to park.

Weird how people from Louisiana love to bash stuff when they don't know what they are talking about. The new airport is badass and one of the best in the country. 99% of the people that complain about the airport haven't flown out of it, just like to bitch. It's one of the reasons Louisiana is always ranked last year after year.

No I was also looking for best place to park. We typically fly out of lft and when we’ve gone to Nola for flights we were dropping our kids off so it was seeet and easy.

Is the old terminal being used at all or is it empty??

The airport is nice, one of the nicest I’ve been in recently. I like that there’s a desk for $20ish flat-rate van rides into the city so you aren’t fricked by ride share surges. The only thing I didn’t like was the shuttle to the rental car facility. I guess it’s at the old terminal and the shuttle took a 40 minute goat path to get there.

Yep. I flew out of the new airport last week. Took 5 minutes to walk from the long term lot to the airport and security was maybe 15 minutes. I think it's an awesome airport. I have no idea what all the bitching is about

I flew out midday last week and the airport was hot as balls- did anyone else experience this? Everyone in the terminal was sweating balls, the coolers were all fogging up. It’s gotta be all that glass- and it’s not even summer.

Only other gripe is that the concourses still feel cramped and narrow with all the restaurants and bars in the center.

Other than that it was a good experience.

Baggage claim has always taken longer at MSY than any other airport in the nation. I’m sure that won’t improve.

Agreed. That airport is miles better than the old one. The only complaint (and someone above me mentioned it) is that the rental car center is a long ride to the terminal. Seemed like a good 8-9 minutes. Not the end of the world, but something you definitely need to budget for when figuring out when you need to get to the airport.

New Orleans airport was a great experience. I read on tigerdroppings for weeks prior to Wednesday - day before Thanksgiving - where posters painted a truly horrid picture

Empty. The parking garages are still being used though.

I went in a week ago and I thought it was fine. Didn’t take too long. Came back a week later and landed and got my bags and was out the door in a few minutes.

I did see the car line backed way up but took a shuttle to parking so didn’t have to deal with all that.

This is such freaking bullshite. The old airport was still efficient for what it was; it look like shite after 5 years because all the funding was going to the new airport.

The new airport was a billion dollar make over and now a pain in the arse to arrive and exit during peak hours.

The only issue with the old airport was not enough parking and during peak hours the bottle neck exiting the airport to get to airport road to the interstate.

The only more efficient airport that I have experienced is the Tampa airport. Tampa's rail line from the terminal to economy/ rental car is freaking awesome. If New Orleans long term plan is to use the current old parking as economy and the rentals to remain, is a rail line to the new terminal.
