Definitely a street parking violation. If you park on the side of the street going against the traffic, that means you are in the driver's seat and next to the curb.

That puts you at a disadvantage when pulling out into traffic since you have either no clear view or limited view of traffic depending on how many cars are parked on the street.

Last year a lady down the block from me, parked the wrong way, went to leave and hit a car head-on when she pulled out.

Using the term neutral ground instead of median is so stupid.

it’s a New Orleans area thing - a historical thing, too, sorry you don’t like it

But you not liking doesn’t change anything, and we are still going to say it

Just like it’s a streetcar, not a trolley

And where you got dem shoes?

and brake tag
true

But all the terms make sense - when I bought my first car in 1999, I had to go get the city of NOLA brake tag

And the brakes were actually checked - I had to drive like 20 mph and stop on the platform - so I don’t see why ‘brake tag’ is so controversial

Nothing if you change your plate up. I change my license plate all the time after I get boot notices. . The boots are tied to plate numbers not vins

You can only park on the neutral ground when inclement weather is around. Other than that it's always ticketed. Except for the Zulu members on Broad. They never get tickets

Parking tickets don't give you bench warrants like regular tickets

Legally parking is the easiest thing to possibly do. I have been ticketed and towed before and I have been in the wrong 100% of the time trying to park closer rather walk an extra few blocks.

I get it.

Just acknowledging that in a city with so many issues that a local or visitor has to overlook - hiring 50 meter maids while furloughing people in actual city services isn’t stellar, right?

Hitting drivers with illegal camera tickets for 4 mph over seems ticky tack compared to them having a great time spending money in the city and generating funds while overlooking the pot holes and homeless not being addressed by the city.

It's a local thing. Like Brake tag or making groceries.

I was walking in Jackson Square last week and a guy tried to start the shoes thing with me. I just said "y'all really still doing this hustle". Then he went on to shine a pair of tourists Adidas shell toes. Those guys never stop scamming.

Id rather them collect dollars from people doing illegal things and furlough workers in a bloated system.

I do get the sentiment that you shouldn't target tourists. Though I don't agree that we should allow them to do illegal stuff just because they are visitors.

A good government collects fines for illegal things and corrects the budget and services issue. They shouldn't not do some things just because they can't do them all.

for the 23 years I lived in NOLA, I was never asked that question

However, a few years ago, my husband and I went to the French Quarter for the weekend and two guys came up to us and said something about my shirt, but I couldn’t hear him so I axed, ‘Whachu said, dawlin?’ They took a step back and told my husband something he couldn’t hear and then walked away.

Still hanging too hard on the word tourist probably as I tried to generalize out to “make it easier for folks to want to do business with the city” instead of “aggressively fine fans of the city for what are often slight imperfections compared to the things they are excusing”

That could be the person from Metairie trying to go downtown for lunch and a stroll.

You typically don’t fine your way out of a tax deficit. You grow your way out of it.

Just went in to try and pay the ticket and the officer put the license plate number down wrong, put in a i instead of a 1. Seems like that should get me out of paying it right?
